I am in the Boston area (read: expensive!) and we priced out caterers for 150 people for a seated dinner, and we got quotes around $13,000 including all of the rentals we would need so it sounds like that’s pretty standard…but that’s on par for Boston and if you live outside of a major city I’d look elsewhere….

Mine is $1600 for 150 people. Ya’lls food is going to cost two times more than my wedding. Beneifit of living in a rural area I guess. 🙂

Catering is very expensive in our area, so we had get creative. we  decided to have a buffet style dinner and ordered trays of food from a friendor caterer.  we paid slightly over $1100 for enough food to feed 175 guests plus we had left overs.  If you are open to buffet style you will save a lot if you use an independent caterer who doesnt serve the food and just delivers it.

Ours is $12,000-$15,000 including the chivari chairs and it’s a plated meal.  But we’re in DC, so also very expensive!

@Mrsgurzakovic:  Exactly.  I’ve been told that roughly 50% of your budget is going to the catering costs!

Mine was catered by a local restaurant so that kept the cost down. We spent $1700 and that was for 100 people for a buffet dinner. This included all food and server costs.

@abbie017:  I think we’re much closer to 75%. We’ll have to see when the bar bill comes in.

@atalante:  That makes me feel better for the cost of mine!  When I got the proposals, I nearly had a heart attack!

@storm0075 that is how we kept our cost down too, a local yummy mexican place is gonna cater ours.

@Mrsgurzakovic i would check out resturants in your area, the ones that are privately owned would probably love to do a wedding.

@abbie017:  Yup. I think I’m numb to sticker shock at this point, and we’re doing a pretty low-key event.

For a plated meal, 270  people the food cost us $12,000. Food options were Crab cakes, filet mignon, or chicken milanese
