Well, now that we’re 30+, my friends are all getting married. Which means the obligatory purchase of lame, overpriced bridesmaids dresses. Yay.

I’ve been a bridesmaid 5 times, I’ve never paid more than 100.00 per dress. I’ve never gotten alterations done.
ETA: I’m in Oregon 😛 so I imagine there is a big difference in prices between NY and OR haha.
One was around $140, one was $180. The first one didn’t need alterations because it was a top and bottom from david’s bridal I could buy in the size I need. The other was 180 plus 100 in alterations. It was a nightmare.
ETA: For my wedding, they are $108 and no alterations needed – convertible dresses, long.
All the Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses I’ve had to get were around $150, when you added in any required extras like a bolero, shoes, etc..I spent closer to $200. So far I’ve refused to get any alterations, as long as the dress fits me well enough and doesn’t fall down…LOL. It only needs to work for one night.
In Alberta, Canada as soon as you put the word wedding on something, look forward too 100% mark up My bridemaids and i literally looked everywhere in the area and couldnt find anything under $200. And we didnt want to chance ordering online because a few of the girls have shape, and that is tough!!
my Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses were $139, i gifted them $100 towards each dress. they covered the balance and alterations if needed (1 girl didn’t). i made sure they were dresses they would be happy to wear again.
everyone was pleased.
Mine for my girls $35 from Target. I could not stand to have them pay over $100 for a dress that would go to complete waste.
I had one for my friend’s wedding from David’s bridal for $88, my sisters was long and ugly and $250 back in 2008.
I’ve been in 5 weddings, and paid $100+ in all of them, and $200+ in at least two of them. Mine were $90. I’m a nice bride 🙂
Mine have all been around $100ish, usually no alterations needed.
The one my BMs picked came to $150 – no alterations needed, and I paid for $25 of that each as part of their gift. So they paid $125.
All the bridesmaid dresses I’ve had to buy were $50-100, but the bride and all the bridesmaids are typically college students on a broke college kid budget lol I think it’s a lot different when the brides/bridesmaids are older and should be able to contribute more, even though a $200 is still outragoues at any age to me.
@lealorali: I’ve been a Bridesmaid or Best Man twice. First time in 2006, and my dress was $150+some for alterations. I was a 17 year old jobless high schooler, so that sucked big time. It wasn’t a dress I could re-wear and now she’s divorced from that guy, so it ticks me off even more.
My second time was last summer and I paid-ZERO! Yay for being a Maid/Matron of Honor 🙂 If I did have to pay for it, it would have been, I think, 50 bucks at the most from JC Penny and a dress I can re-wear again in the summer.
