I’m just now starting to research what the average is for hiring a DJ – if you bees don’t mind my asking, what did you spend on yours (or roundabout price)? And any recommendations from anyone in the Chicago suburbs? I found someone who got really good reviews (lowest review was 4.9/5) but their cheapest package is $1500. They also do lighting and I really wanted to hang some lights from the reception ceiling, but they charge $800 for them…yikes. Just not sure what to expect yet as far as averages go. Our reception is 4 1/2-5 hours I believe.

Ours is $750 for a total of 4.5 hours. It includes music for outside ceremony and cocktail hour and inside music for reception. Also includes a mic for the officiant. We are getting a $100 discount for a Sunday.

Our DJ was a family friend so we got a bit of a deal, but we paid $500 for 5 hours. We weren’t interested in any lighting thoughh.

@somerrae: Haha I wish I knew someone in the business, that seems to be a good deal! Lighting isn’t a must-have for me but I think photos would turn out cooler with em 🙂

Ours is $975 for 6 hours. More than I probably wanted to spend, but that was before I realized how much they cost around here. =p

$600. The cheapest one that I found that was available for my date. I did get $100 for paying the same day I booked, so that was nice.

$950. That’s for about 6-7 hours, 3 completely seperate set-ups (ceremony, cocktail hour, & reception are in 3 different rooms), and a personal online website.

$1100 for 6 hours. About double what I was planning on spending, but they’re worth every penny!

Thanks bees! So at least according to what you guys paid, the one I was looking at is a bit high. I know it’ll depend on location, the date, etc. Mine is on a Friday in the fall so maybe there are some incentives.
@MrsMaskatoBe: Oh no!! I guess you didn’t get what you pay for, I was reading to not go for cheap DJ’s because (like lots of vendors) you get what you pay for. Sorry that had to happen, I hope I don’t run into that! 🙁
