What is the deciding factor here??  The thread title suggests the money, but in your post it sounds like you’re willing to spend the extra this girl that you like charges because you know photos are worth it.  Can you clarify the pros and cons of each photographer?  I think that repliers will be better able to let you know their opinions on the deciding factor(s) if you’re a little clearer about them 🙂

It all boils down to: your budget, how important pictures are to you, how comfortable you are with the photographer, and how you feel about the photographer’s style.

Our photographer doesn’t charge a whole lot for her packages (ours is $1300 for e-session, 8 hours day of, 2 shooters, DVDs of photos, all print rights), which was an added bonus to the fact that she’s awesome and her pictures are beautiful. I guess “a little bit better pics and poses” is kind of vague. Do have links to their websites?

We’re paying over $4000 for our photographers.  Our custom package includes 2 photographers for 11 hours, engagement session, DVD with print rights, and wedding album.   Ours is a little more pricey since we needed the photographers for such a long time, but I believe it will be worth it.  Photos are so important to me, because I want to be able to look back at my day for years to come.

Personally I am spending right around $4k, I had the option to do half that or nearly double that when looking through photographers, and the person I liked the best had a great personality, a great package, and most importantly great pictures – these were the main things I looked at.  If it’s in your budget, go for the pictures you like best.  Does this other couple who has done other photos for you have lots of wedding experience?  That was another deciding factor for me; whether or not a photographer did primarily weddings full time and experience with an all day event with lots of people and lots of opportunities for candids and details.

Good luck in your decision!!

You have one chance to get the best photos you can.  What is it worth to you?

I picked a photographer who gave me a discounted rate of 5 hours and a CD for $1250. I’m a little worried though since I sent my contract and deposit 2 weeks ago, and as far as I know he hasn’t received it and a deposit isn’t being shown in my bank account. He said he’d put a hold on the date for me for a week, and I’m going to email him later this weekend to see what’s going on on his end :/ I honestly was thinking about not going with a professional because of budget reasons but reviews of him are great and it was hard to pass up the discount.

If it turns out that the deposit and contract took too long to get to him then I’ll just ask an acquaintance if they would be willing to do it since we’re tight on the budget as it is.

We had found a photographer who backed out on us too and found another one right away and I think the quality of her pictures are so much better and what we get for the price is better too. We are paying $600 for 12hrs, getting a cd with all pictures taken with copy rights, a cd that has been edited with pictures she thinks needs it, a album with pictures from start to finish of our day.

We are paying $5600 for our photographer. But he is the top guy in our city. I figured I would splurge a bit on pictures since that is all we will have left from the day. I suggest that if it is within your budget, go with the person whose photos/style you like better.
