If you have a Dollar Tree in your area, that’s a good place to start.  You can also buy online.  Each of mine ended to be $10+ dollars on each (I seriously lost track of the cost) because I ran out of flowers and then spent WAY TOO MUCH TIME/energy hunting for similar flowers.

I’d suggest doing a test with one of your balls and make sure you fill it the entire way.  I did my test one half way and thought I had a good idea of how many flowers (approx 25-30) but ended up needing more.  It really depends on the type of flowers, how full/compressed you want it….

I ordered mine in bulk online from eBay.  I got a box of 1,000 carnation picks, and it made 21 pomander balls.  I think I paid $100, plus $40 in shipping (it was a giant box!) for them.

I got mine online (actually a friend found them), it was a website along the lines of save on silk flowers or wedding silk flowers…. I honestly am not sure right now, pm me and I will find out for sure.  We got the kissing balls already made for $2.06 each.  Although I love DIY I couldn’t have bought the supplies for that.  They are smaller ones (5 inches with the flowers on), but I am sure they have bigger as well.  They came quickly and looked great when we got them!

I am in the process of doing pomanders also.  I found the ebay deal also. I think it was 1000 carnations for 40$ and I have bought all the pink silk carnations at many local dollar stores. Even if they are not the best quality , once they are on the ball you cannot tell!! I made a 6 inch ball and used about 36 flowers on it. My stems came with 10-12 flowers on a stem. The pics are easier to work with (1 single flower on a pic) but harder to find. Good luck!

I am not sure of the exact amount we spent, but we made 20 – 5″ pomanders (for the aisle), 10 – 8″ pomanders (centerpieces) and 8 – 6″ pomanders (for head table). I got all our flowers from silkflowerfactory.com and I want to say we spent around $500 on them all, plus the styrofoam balls which I got from saveoncrafts.com and Michaels (used the coupons every week to buy the 8″ balls). So, we probably spent around $650 on supplies…

It seems like a lot, but I tried buying flowers from Dollar Tree at first and it took me three times as many flowers to cover one 5″ ball… The flowers from Silk Flower Factory are bigger and more sturdy than anything you’ll find at dollar tree.

I also plan on re-selling all of the pomanders after the wedding, so that should help off set the cost. It was the 8″ pomanders that killed the price. 🙂
