Our crib and change table were $300 (from WalMart).  The dresser is one that was in my room growing up, and previous in my mom’s nursery. We refinished the whole thing and it looks great 🙂

My mom picked up a glider second hand for $20. It was almost new, all we have to do is get new cushions.

We only spent $300 on a MASSIVE dresser from Ikea.  Our crib was gifted to us by my best friend.  We had a glider all ready from my husband’s first marriage – we sanded it down, painted it and re-upholstered the cushions. The dresser doubles as a changing table (seriously its that big).  that is the only furniture in the nursery and its enough

You’re definitely within range for brand new furniture from a retailer other than Ikea. I’ve looked online and at baby stores, e.g. BRU, and at regular stores, e.g. Target, and I think you’re about right for nice pieces that don’t look like they’re going to collapse.

    We spent:

    $379 – Babyletto Hudson Crib

    $400- Babyletto Hudson Dresser/Changer (I really wanted something kid-friendly with no knobs/handles/pulls)

$395 – Nook Pebble Pure Mattress (good for infants and toddlers)

$449 – Little Castle Furniture Morgan Glider (haven’t purchased yet but will)

$179 – Little Castle Furniture Morgan Footrest for Glider

    $39.99 x2 – Ikea Expedit Shelving Unit

    $10.95 x 8 – Land of Nod Storage Containers

@As_You_Wish:  the crib and changing table are solid wood. The dresser is a little flimsier but it’s still pine – not particle board. I posted a pic of my nursery on a thread I started if you want to see. It’s Sorelle, espresso finish. Highly recommend.

I didn’t spend anything on the furniture. I had a very gracious coworker who gave me a like-new glider, matching footrest, crib, dresser and changing table for free. His ex wife decided that after only 5 months of using them, she wanted all new furniture because she changed her mind about the color of the wood. I was sure not going to be picky! But, before I knew he was going to give me that furniture, I was prepared to spend between $1,000-$1,500 on new furniture at either Target or Ikea.

Unfortunately for now we are using hand me down furniture from my husbands first marriage.  For some reason, this really bothers me.

I was just thinking about all the furniture I am going to need…the musts for me are obviously crib, changing table, dresser, and glider with ottoman…..but I dont’ want one of those tacky looking gliders, I want a nice one, oh geesh, this could get expensive.

    Crib: Free from my sister-in-law

Glider with ottoman: $160 off of Amazon

    Changing Table $60 from IKEA.

I’m going to keep the old dresser that’s in there, and probably just paint it white or pink and put new hardware on it.

I saw cute shelves I want my dad to replicate, so that’ll just be the cost of a sheet of plywood.

It’s not my dream nursery, but I think it will look cute and cozy when it’s all together.

This is our 4th baby so we wanted to spend as little as possible.  We reused a lot of pieces so those were free (repurpose furiniture if you can to save money… if you have a side table in another room you barely use, put it in baby’s room if you don’t care too much about matching furniture).

We didn’t get a crib but that would have been free since fil offered to pay for it.  We got a good quality pack and play that comes with bassinet attachment and a changing station.  We get 3 uses out of it and it was $180.  If we had gotten a crib plus changing table it would have been more.  We also got a closet/armoire type system for the room since the room has no closet but fil paid for that and it was $170 (not real wood but we won’t be moving it so it’s fine.)

We have spent almost $1000 on all things baby related though, like the stroller and carseat ($400), the swing (90), the playgym, the high chair, etc… everything for baby big and small.  But as far as actual nursery, not much.

Pack and Play with changetable: $180

Rocking chair: FREE (was in the room when it was an office and have had it for years… given to us by fil)

Table: FREE (was in the office and just repurposed it)

Side table: FREE (given to me by mil)

Closet: FREE (fil purchased it for us as a gift…cost him $170)

Hamper: less than $2 (one of those mesh callapsable hampers)

Diaper Pail: FREE (gift from mil… I picked it out, just a regular steel trash can with foot pedal).

Lamp: FREE (it’s not in the room yet as it’s in our room but it was a baby shower gift for my 3rd son).

End Table: FREE (was in the former playroom so repurposed)

So I spent a total of less than $200 for the room and with the other purchase, a total of $340 was spent on the room’s furniture.  I love the room and it’s like my favorite room in the house… the best nursery I have done by far LOL.

I’ve paid for all of mine. I probably won’t get a dresser – I’ll hang clothes and otherwise put them into storage until we’re ready to use it. I have changing pads (don’t mind changing on the floor). My crib was on sale – I paid about $110 for it.

I might get a gliding chair or something for this room, but probably not. If I did, maybe another $100, $150, depending on where I get it.

My Mother-In-Law was so generous and kind to gift us our babies crib. She took us to Babies R Us and allowed us to pick out the one we wanted. I tried to get lower end ones, but she kept guiding us to the expensive ones because she “wants her grandson to sleep on nothing but the best quality” LMbooo! At first I was opposed to it, especially when I saw she was going to put it on layaway, but my husband let us know she would have been offended if we didn’t allow her to buy it. So i was grateful for that because the crib is definitely the most expensive piece of furniture in his room. We got a crib with the changing table attached so that help us cut down on the cost, and get a two in one deal.

So far we have only had to pay for paint and wall decor, we got alot of cash and gift cards from our baby shower and family and friends so we have hardly had to come out of pocket to furnish his room or buy him things that he needs. I’m the oldest and this is my parents’ first grandchild and my husband is the only son in his family so everyone is SUPER generous to us and we are ever so grateful.
