I found my dress at DB as well. It was about $800 at the store, but I realized that since I fit the sample size, I ordered the sample version for about $400

sawall :  I’m in Australia too and that’s such a standard price here, seriously. Mine was less – but there was a lot less dress than a traditional gown too. Everything is sooo $$$$ here.

From this day forward by Carla Zampatti – $1,200.

I, too, could not fathom spending over $1K for a dress type of bride. Then reality hit, and mine was $2,500 at the end of the day, and not one, but two dresses. One was for $1 and the other $1,500. I am anything but a two dress, bride. BUT, the dresses I got were brand new at a Monique Lhuillier sample sale. The sales associate told me I had done well as one retailed for over $10K and the other $9.5K. I don’t regret it as I’ve always wanted to be a Monique Lhuiller bride since I was 13. I was just actually going to look and get a sense of what dresses I liked but those were the first two dresses I tried and couldn’t decide. Price was right and both were completely different. Can’t wait to wear it in a few weeks.

I hear ya. I only agreed to the proposal if he agreed to an elopement with no guests. I just don’t think I could hack planning a wedding. The gowns however is something I could find.

may I ask what your size is? I bought my gowns at places that carry samples. Try Glamour Closet out there or when you go to a bridal shop ask them if they sell samples at a discount. GC is still very expensive but it might be cheaper than full price.

My gowns were purchased at stores that carry samples where the proceeds go to charity. I was so over the bridal industry and wanted to make a difference by supporting good causes in honor of my late mom who won’t be at my wedding. I paid $300 for one gown originally marked $4200. I flew to Portland to buy it at Brides for a Cause. I bet you would love that place. So chill, everything is so incredibly reasonable. I was shopping alone and they helped me choose a gown. All proceeds go to women-related charities. I bought a short dress for $150 marked down from $550 in their Tacoma store. Then I spent $700 on another gown marked down from $2500 at the Brides Project in Ann Arbor, Michigan where proceeds go to cancer charities. PM me if you want more details. I think they also ship.

Anyway I would say don’t give up and don’t pay too much for a gown bc there are way too many ways to find discounts these days to overpay.

one thing you might want to be mindful of is alterations. I was floored at the quotes I was getting. Alterations at bridal shops in my city start at $850. That is extremely high but you live in San Fran so it could be similar. vefore you buy a gown try to ask how much the alterations would be

Davids Bridal was having a sample sale online until August 2nd and they have some dresses that are marked at $99 right now (not sure how long this will last).

You can also look at bridesmaid dresses or prom dresses. You can usually pick whatever colour you want and white/ivory/champagne is generally one of those options.

Also eloping 🙂 congrats – Lake Tahoe will be beautiful! I wish I were closer to that region and I may have considered Lake Tahoe! I chose Niagara Falls though.

My dress came from a company in Chicago called Flora and Lane. You can find them on Instagram and see all their beautiful dresses! They are very boho bridal. I saw a dress on their site and asked if I could customize to my likings, and since I didn’t change much from the original design, it didn’t cost any extra. You can order by size or measurements. I went with measurements and still had to have some alterations done – wasn’t a big deal though. I went with this company because I entered a contest for $250 gift card to their shop, not thinking I would win it, turns out I did – haha! I hadnt heard of them until I saw the contest on Instagram. I’m in love with my dress. I had the train removed because my ceremony is outside by The Falls.

The dress was 1,047 and I paid 797 with my gift card. Plus 35 for shipping.

I too was also looking at big stores and big brands that was just not my taste or was too expensive. Flora and Lane can create something truly unique for you! If you are interested I’ll email the designer and let her know 🙂 they are very responsive and accommodating.

I would recommend bridal consignment stores, especially since you live in such an urban area. I bought mine consignment for $250 and I loved it!

mollymaxx4 :  I also ordered it all completely online. Forgot to mention that. It was all through email and me sending my suggestions of what I wanted and them sending pictures back and forth. Took about 6 weeks from design and delivery. They are handmade in their Chicago boutique! They are all about boho brides.

Congrats!

Im from San Francisco. I actually went by myself to a boutique and tried on dresses like rapid fire to see what I’d like and what costs were. I also got measured so I’d know what size I’d be if I got a dress else where or online .

Once I had a better idea what I wanted, I shopped lastminutebride.com (new sample dresses, online store in Sac that do offer returns) I got my 2800 dollar dress for 1200

I also visited Garnet and Grace in Hayward  ( new sample dress stores most under 1k)

lulus.com (tons of white dresses that are bridalesque and returnable)

preownnwsweddingdress.com – my best friend tried on dresses in store and couldn’t stomach a 3k dress so she found one used in a similar size for 1k

goodluck
