I was trying on dresses up to $2,800 and nothing came close for me wanting to purchase.

Luckily, I’m getting it custom done for probably $1,500 or less. I’m very excited to see the end result! One year today is my wedding <3

mollymaxx4 :  my dress was $1100 out the door, all said and done. It is a Melissa Sweet from Davids Bridal. My Future Mother-In-Law paid for the dress as a gift, but I was prepared to spend around $1000. The runner up dress was $1000

mollymaxx4 :  I had only budgeted £900 all in including alterations but then didn’t like anything at the off the rail cheap dress shop. Ended up spending £1345 for the dress plus £250 for alterations. Woops! Got it in a bridal boutique about 30 miles from where I live in the UK

MsAfarian :  You look so stunning! I love it!!

EVERYWHERE I went was so expensive. The lady in one dress shop told me that I wouldn’t be able to find what I want on the rack. All I wanted was tight and off the shoulder. I didn’t think it was too much of a request, and she said what I was describing is couture. Sooo.. I went to one lady that does couture and the dress I liked was $9k!!! … and then I was reccommended by the first shop to go to another one that was “reasonably priced” and that was $8000ish… I almost died and then I found Jannifer Wu Couture, who is making my dress to measurement at $4900.

I couldn’t find anything off the rack that was to my liking (I have pretty specific taste) and in my price range so I went custom. If I had bought off the rack, I would have also had to pay a fortune in alterations since I am very short and petite. A lot of places had a min size 2 and I am a 0 at best.

I got a beaded lace & sparkle tulle ballgown with a matching lace trim cathedral veil. Total price for dress & veil was $1400. I am so excited for my FH to finally see it in 12 days!

sawall :  Wow that is absolutely insane! Couture is just made-to-measure right? You seriously couldn’t find something that basic off-rack? It really is a nightmare here lol.

I thought I was super budget when I got mine for just over $1,000, but then I see other brides (particularly in the US) who get full on ball gown amazing dresses for the same or less! Impossible to find here.

MsAfarian :  I know. I am reading all of these posts thinking I got ripped off! Ha!

It is impossible. Either that or I am high maintenance lol

Got mine at Best for Bride in Toronto (its a small chain). It’s about $800 total and since we bought it the first visit we get up to $300 in value accessories like veils, belts

Also, wanted to mention that it is worth it to look out for discontinued dresses. There are some shops that specifically sell these. You can find Maggie Sotteros that are only a few years old, but still very stylish for significant discounts.

mollymaxx4 :  Hi! I’m in San Jose!

The dress pictured is from Glamour Closet in SF. If you fit sample size dresses, it’s a great option – designer dresses for half price or so. There are still some pricy options, but many in your budget! http://glamourcloset.com/closet/index.asp

Also Garnet and Grace in Hayward has samples: https://garnetandgrace.com/

Macy’s downtown also has a huge selection of Adrianna Papell and similar dresses that are neutral/cream/ivory/gold colors, and look very bridal to me! Those could be perfect for a small wedding and are all under $500 (I think).

Good luck!

$1400 plus tax from BHLDN.

I’ve spent an additional $1,000 on alterations, viel, sash and wedding shoes.

I got my dress from Preownedweddingdresses.com and paid $200 including shipping. I just got it back from the seamstress and only paid $155 for alterations. I am extrememly happy with it and glad I went this route!
