My dress was $500 CAN, probably around $700 CAN in total (including tax, shipping, customs charge, and alterations). Total wedding budget was probably around 25k CAN. Now that we’ve been married about 6 months I would not have wanted to spend a penny more, I know its hard to keep in perspective when you’re planning but it seriously is just one day.

diamondbeez :  my budget is likely to be $2,000 before alterations – my mom is contributing $1500 and then anything over that I kick in. I’m about to be a law student so I don’t want to go much over that and I know I can find a gorgeous dress in that range!

My sister I think spent a little more but she isn’t about to be a law student lol. I think her total cost with alterations will be $3,000, maybe a little lower than that. The pics are her dress:)

Budgets and how much you spend on the dress really are all over the place on here!  Stick to whatever you feel comfortable paying and def know your budget before you go shopping.  I had went dress shopping for my sisters wedding prior, so I had a good idea of how much a dress with my taste would cost.  Mine is $1,299 before taxes.  Alterations are being done for free by a family friend ๐Ÿ™‚  The belt will be extra though, so I’m trying to find a cheap one online.

I haven’t found my yet, my budget from the wedding fund is about 1.5k. Coming under that would be great, but equally I would be happy to add to that for the right dress.

twentytwenty :  It’s unhelpful to come onto a post like this and imply most posters don’t have common sense because of what they spent on their dress. It’s a personal choice.

IMG_4419DSC_0628IMG_4429My dress was originially $1600 I think, but the bridal store was having a sale and everything was 20%, so it was going to be around $1400 with tax. BUT then a few months later, the bridal store closed down so I had to contact the designer (Moonlight Bridal). We had put a $800 deposit on the dress and they told me not to worry about the rest because they felt bad about the store closing! So it was under $1,000.

I spent $1,100 on my dress and $400 on alterations.  I believe the alterations were grossly over priced but I was rushed so I didn’t take the time to shop around. I was happy with my dress but in hindsight I feel I could have found something similar for much, much less.

My dress was $1300. Alterations will be $375 with all that needs to be done. I went over dress budget by $100. Which was okay with us because I was so happy with it.

Couple of hundred. I was only going to wear it for about 10 hours so I personally felt that it would be a waste to spend thousands on it, so I hired a magician to entertain the guests and put the leftover money into my honeymoon fund. I’m glad too because the bottom got snagged on some thorns walking back to the hotel that night so I wouldn’t have been able to make my money back by selling it if it had been an expensive dress. ๐Ÿ™

It really depends on your priorities; for me the aim of the wedding was to celebrate with my friends and family (and my husband!) so that’s where I spent the money; I only got the puffy white dress because I knew my parents would like it for their only surviving daughter and I didn’t mind either way. Some people want to treat themselves and that’s fine too; you only get the one day. ๐Ÿ™‚
