How much did you spend on your wedding dress?

My dress budget is $1500 all in. I’m getting custom made from a local fashion designer. I’ll put the sketch below. It’s also being remade into a peplum style dressy top and a high-waisted vintage style ruffle fishtail style skirt. I found the idea of spending so much on a dress for one day really wasteful, and picked my designer because I know this is how she does her dresses. I love the idea of having beautiful pieces of custom made clothing I can wear over and over.  My price of $1500 includes everything, taxes, fittings, alterations as well as the remake costs.

As far as in proportion to my budget, our total budget for wedding, honeymoon and ring is $50k. I know the price range of my ring is about $20k. My priorities weren’t the dress for one day, it was a piece of jewelry I’d have on my hand for the rest of my life.

edited to add: Price is in CAD and dress is champagne gold so a rewearable colour.

My dress budget was $1500, however I went a bit over for the Wtoo Della (beaded), I fell in love with it! So it was worth the extra $150 to get this dress, and we decided to save the money on invitations (vistaprint instead of overly fancy ones). I just have the stock photos right now, once I have the dress in my size I’ll post!

Dress was $1200, $1350 with tax. Didn’t need any alterations. I loved my dress but if I had thought about it before buying I would’ve looked more into dresses not labeled as wedding dresses that can be a wedding dress that are cheaper like bridesmaid dresses, prom dresses etc.

Pre-planned budget was $1000.. but I spent $1200 for a sleeved all lace Maggie Soterro that I fell in love with. Another $20 bucks for a gorgeous blinged out belt/sash and alterations I dont know about yet since these dont start til end of Sept/early October. It shouldnt be too much, as I only need to bring the waist in, tighten the shoulders and add a bustle. No hem..yayyy!

I bought only one dress for our fall wedding. I do also plan to sell it afterwards, but not sure I will find a buyer who is sized like me.. I have a size 10 chest and a size 4 waist. Fingers crossed!

$1000! And my budget was under $4k. My dress ranged from 1000-1600 depending on the store.

diamondbeez :  I spent 350 Euro for the dress and 85 Euro to have it shortened. And I still feel like I overpaid… for reference: my ering was 30k and my band 5k ($no tax)

I wanted my dream dress but I was dead set on spending as little as possible. There was no way I gonna spent thousands on a dress I will wear once.

I bought in a bridal outlet in Germany and they went down with the price because they had trouble selling it due to the small size. Second outfit will be a white tube top (2€ at an h&m sale), Tamaris flip flops set with pearls (German brand) 35€ and white board shorts I yet have to find. We are getting married in Hawaii…

I think it’s about personal priorities… I wanted a pretty and cute dress but wasn’t willing to spent money on it because I will wear it once. Nobody cares what a bride wears as long as it’s white. The dress is gone and forgotten within minutes of leaving a reception. At least I only can recall that a bride looked nice or not not… nothing else. Once a saw a bride wear red chucks with her dress  no idea how the dress looked like not what style it was but the red converse I remember 🙂

My dress cost me $1100. It hasn’t arrived yet, so I don’t know what alterations will cost. I’m guessing a couple of hundred to shorten it and have it taken in.

diamondbeez :  I think a lot of bees have a similar mindset to me. they don’t mind spending on the ring a bit more espeically if they like jewelry and plan to always wear it. But the dress is really just the dress you wear for one day.

my budget was under $1,000. I purchased my dress for $700 w/ tax, veil for $30, shoes for $40. I am leaving room for alterations because I think I might have to have it taken in.

Mine was originally 1000, but I snagged It on clearance for 500 and only need a hem and a bustle. Should be about 700 said and done. I really hate that I spent this much, but it’s so gorgeous. I originally bought a 99 dollar dress but I just wasn’t excited to wear It, so I traded It in for one that I really love.

diamondbeez :  Dress shopping was so much fun but a bit harder for me because I was not interested in spending money for a $$ dress.  Not becuase I could not afford it – but more because it is not the first time I will have been married.  My Fiance wanted me in a fitted dress.  The $$ designer version of this dress was over $2000.00.  I bought this one (from China) for about $250.00 which included shipping.  Upon close inspection it does lack in the fine sewing details, and I am adding a full slip beneath because the pics do not show that you could easily see my legs from mid thigh down and I thought it made it look choppy…but the dress was not disappointing.

I am very happy I went this route.

I spent $2500 (it was a discontinued sample so it probably would have once retailed around $3000 or so). That is not including the alterations. I could have spent more if I really wanted to, but I couldn’t justify to myself spending $8K + on a dress I was only going to wear for a few hours (that was just me personally though…to each their own and I certainly have seen some drop dead gorgeous couture five figure bridal gowns that I’ve salivated over). It should be as important to you as you want it be.  For me, I felt like I could still look like a million bucks on my wedding day without spending over $4000. I tried on a lot of options in the $1200-$4k range that looked just as good as the more expensive ones and I would rather put more money toward other aspects of the wedding.

I plan to change into another white dress later in the night that’s easier to dance in. Haven’t picked that one out yet! Here’s a pic. I’ll be wearing a petticoat under it.

Edit: My E- ring was 10x the cost of my dress, but for me, spending more on the ring is justified. That’s on your finger for the rest of your life. The dress is only on you for a few hours, and you can’t wear it again.
