My Dress was from a mom and pop dress shop that sells wedding, prom and general formal attire. It was $250 and the second dress I tried on. I tried on only 4 total. My budget was $500. The Dress factor was not a priority for me I just wanted it to look nice and to feel elegant and pretty in it. My engagement ring and wedding ring cost under $1000 total for similar reasons. Total wedding cost excluding the dress, rings and honeymoon was $700.

With alterations, about a thousand.  The dress was about 8. In retrospect, that’s an insane amount of money for a 6 hour dress.  🙂

When discussing the budget for my dress, Darling Husband surprised me by saying he’d allowed 5k in our budget for it! I had no intentions of spending that much money on a dress that I would only wear once, but it gave me something to work with lol.

In the end, the dress I chose was $2100 Australian (before alterations). It was still slightly more than I had personally wanted to spend (I was hoping to stick to around the 2k mark) but I really loved the dress so I didn’t mind too much. With alterations, a belt and shoes (I wore jewellery I already owned and my step mother’s veil), my whole outfit came in at about 3k so I was happy with that.

sapphire27 :Here is the inspiration for my dress minus the belt!! I will have a back like yours with covered buttons. Next dress fitting is in a few weeks but dress is coming together for April wedding. Thank goodness for Etsy. Yours is so much cheaper than mine.

My sister spent $6500 on Vera Wang gown plus $1500 for alterations, paid by her Fiance. My jewish heart would not allow me to spend so much on a dress to wear for several hours, so I would definitely find something much cheaper 🙂

Mine was $7000, before alterations. It hasn’t arrived from the designer yet, so I don’t have any pics to share.

My dress was about $1450 and alterations were probably another $1400 (I had custom sleeves added to a strapless dress)

jessiebear85 :  Ooh I absolutely LOVE yours (obviously haha yes mine is very similar), I have 100% pinned that photo on my pinterest board. I love the lace overlay on the skirt and the neckline. Good call on no belt! 🙂

I looked at dresses for a really long time, and had an internal battle with myself of whether or not I could really be ok with spending anything over $500 for a dress I would only wear one time. My dad gave us 10k to spend for our wedding however we please, and we really wanted to leave some left over funds for honeymoon and a few grand to put toward our house fund.  I searched endlessly, and found lots of things that were extravagant and beautiful but were $1500+ and I decided I could never forgive myself if I spent that much. After much scouring I ran across a dress I had previously really liked, a Vera Wang White Mikado dress with a gorgeous chapel train which was originally $1400, but I found in a ‘flash sale’ bnwt for $275 and had a coupon for $50 off. I ended up walking away with this beauty for $225, and am glad I chose to go the cheap route. I am not thinking I will need alterations on my dress thankfully.

$2800 plus $11 shipping. Not sure about alterations yet, but it fits really well. It’s Alessandra by BHLDN.

About $1800. It’s not that popular here to spend more than 3k on your dress. I can’t even imagine what a 15-20k dress would even look like!
