I spent a full 50€ on buying the dress. No alterations done yet, though.

The bridal shop I went to had dresses that ranged from $1,800-$6,000 which I think is about average for boutiques in my area (I live in Chicago for reference) and the dress I fell in love with and purchased was $1,950. My budget was $2,000. My dress is going to arrive in May for my August wedding!

I kind of went out with an unlimited budget; my Mom used to make wedding dresses, so the theory was if we found something we loved but it was too expensive, she would make it and we’d just have the cost of materials. Ideally I was looking at dresses £2500 and under, but I really liked Pronovias and I know they can run high. Never got around to looking at any in person though!

As it happens, I found an Alfred Angelo sample for £199 that ticked all of my boxes. I think it retailed at £1100ish before they went under. I’m not sure what alterations are going to run too, I don’t start those until next month. Here’s a photo of it on the model; I’m short in the body so I need the dress lifting at the shoulders, and maybe the cups shortening a little too. Mine is ivory over champagne so not as white as in the photo.

My e-ring was £450-500, and my wedding band is £560. Our total wedding budget (excluding honeymoon as that has been gifted) is £10k.

My dress was purchased for me by my mom. It was on sale for $600 CAD so with taxes and such it came up to around $700.

My mom insisted on buying my dress, it’s $1500. With alterations veil and hair piece it will end up being maybe close to $2300-$2500. Im buying my jewelry, shoes, clutch and those are costing more than the dress but i’ve been saving for this and my vision for everything is very particular.

My dress is second hand so I paid £600 – new it was c.£3000. Its a beautiful 100% silk handbeaded Jenny Packham.  My alterations are going to cost about £200- having it taken up, taken in, shoulder straps lifted and cups added. My veil was £100 from Blossom & Bluebird.  I am also having another outfit for my city hall wedding (dress and jacket together about £350).  My engagement ring was insured for £12k. Wedding is going to cost around £40k I imagine but its sort of hard to tell as I am not too strict with the budget and I along with MOB, MOG have been buying bits and bobs as we go along.

diamondbeez :  my Rings had the highest priority since I am going to wear them every day (hopefully) for the rest of my life.

I would have worn the tube top/board short combination for the whole thing but I am a girl after all and I have been dreaming of wearing a white dress since I played with Barbies. I probably would have regretted not heaving a white gown so I found one which I love for the right price.

DaniGirl03 :  I totally agree! That was my point too. I always said that I prioritize the rings above all else. It’s about everyone’s priorities…

When I hear 15k for a dress I automatically convert it to carats in my head πŸ˜‚ I am a big big jewelry lover!

MiaSuperstar :  I looked at it as priorities. I love jewelry, and point blank told him I’d marry him with a plain walmart wedding band. He choose to spend $20k on it, he wanted to get a ring that I would fall in love with each day when I looked at it on my hand.

I completely get society expectations though, people see a 30k ring, they’re going to have expectations for the rest of your wedding. The dress just wasn’t hugely important for me other than wanting it to be able to worn and remade. Now photography, that I care about, if I’d had to reduce my dress budget for our photographer I’d have done it in a heart beat. I’d have picked a $100 bridesmaid dressed if it meant my dream photographer was in budget. Happily I didn’t have to choose.

diamondbeez :  That makes sense to me! I thought the same thing about my headpiece and other jewerly I wore on my wedding day. Darling Husband went to go pick up my flower crown and came home white in the face – “who spends $150 on a flower crown?!?” I looked at him and simply said “I’m not going to have a $5k ring, a $4k dress, and a $10 flower crown.” He then laughed and said he understood! I like it all to be proportional IMO

My dress and the jacket was £24!!!! The shoes were a bit more expensive and my e ring was £300. I guess we’re not great at spending lots of money on things!!! πŸ˜³πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

DaniGirl03 :  I totally get the photography thing!! That was my number two priority together with location and date (I wanted May 1st on a Maui beach at sunset) My Fiance proposed in London (city has a big meaning to us) at the fountain of Joy in Hyde park and had a photographer booked. It was our anniversary and he told me it was a simple anniversary shooting. The photographer was AMAZING. But there’s just no way we can get him from London to Hawaii πŸ™

munchkin1917 :  haha! thanks. I’ll take it as a compliment.

Go chucks.

I went through some shoes but decided for no shoes in the end. It’s comfy and we are on the beach. Now I have to invest in the worlds best pedicure 😜
