We (well my parents) spent around $15K. The venue and catering were our biggest splurges. We lucked out got a fantastic deal on photography otherwise that would have been a splurge as well. And even though our venue was a splurge, since they let us bring in the alcohol we saved a lot of money there.

stephaniee24 :  Haven’t had my wedding yet but the most important for me to splurge on are photography and videography. And I have to have chiavari chairs although many bees here find them as unnecessary expense and instead they would rather put that money on the bar, food upgrade or entertainment. To each is their own I guess. To me, chiavari chairs just make such a world of difference.

ETA: About the amount, I can speak for my friends who had their weddings. They say around $30K in my area not including rings and honeymoon.

stephaniee24 :  We splurged on erings, champagne and out of state photographer.

Saved on flowers (wholesale + family florist), venue (it’s in a small town 10 miles outside the town we live in + February (which in Texas is usually around 65-70 degrees) + Sunday/brunch wedding, and catering (friend of a coworker who runs a side business but is exec pastry chef at one of the top 3 caterers in our city). DIY invitation suite and I eBay’d the stamps for less than face value – bought in bulk and will have enough for STD, invite, RSVP return and thank you notes. And we can bring our own alcohol

Something between splurge/save: Def was not in our planned budget, but we are getting a cigar bar and it’ll be our gift to the Dads

It’s an airstream (so cute!!!) cigar lounge but I’m getting it for a steal -$100 an hour! – because he was just starting out when I found him. He’ll have been in business a year when our wedding comes and we’re providing the cigars, because our dads are cigar guys and like the higher end ones.

Oh! And I bought everything that I’d otherwise rent (except tables and chairs which come with the venue and catering containers which comes with the caterer) – linens, glassware, plates, flatware, head table stuff, etc.

duchessfriedrich :  I’m so jealous of your second line! I was born in NOLA and raised all over the south. I wish my wedding was a Jazz Brunch instead of a Sunday brunch…but alas, I’m in central Texas and can’t find anything even remotely like a second line around here that’s not $2K

I bet your photos are awesome!

Rings – $15K (E ring + bands we need to purchase)

Wedding – $40K (God, I hope it doesn’t go cover that.  Please, God.)

    Honeymoon – $15K

We’ve really found that booking early can really save some serious coin.  For instance, our photographer should have been $5500.  We got her for $3500 because we booked so early.  Our over the top honeymoon hotels should have been $10K.  We’ll get them for $7K.
