Our wedding weekend included the rehearsal dinner (22 guests), the saturday wedding (110 guests), and the sunday brunch (85 guests), but does not include rings or honeymoon. We came in at $29k for all three days. This was more than we wanted to spend but it was also a lot of bang for our buck. We paid for it ourselves expcept for two gifts of $3,000 from each set of parents ($6,000 total). Big ticket items:

    • $7,000 = venue
    • $12,500 = catering
    • $3,800 = rentals (tables/chairs/etc)
    • $3,700 = photography

We saved money by DIYing the altar and the flowers/decor, BYOBing the alcohol, and I got a $500 dress. We hired a friend to be the DJ, and also skipped a wedding cake and did a donut tower. But in the last weeks before the wedding we ended up spending $$ on small things: more on our own hotel room, the bridal party gifts, we needed a rental van, etc. A lot of little things added up in the last month.

I didnt include the honeymoon or engagement rings/engagement parties or hen/stag do as they are seperate event… our budget is £5K which is a decent amount around here and our wedding will be quite casual/rustic – most wouldnt spend over £15k for a formal wedding here and a lot ive been too are £2000 or under for very casual weddings

    our rough breakdown:

    £1100 (venue/food)

£1000 (outfits – including 9 wedding party members)

    £870 (entertainment)

    £750 (photo/video package)

    £480 (church)

    £450 (decor, favors etc…)

    £130 (rings)

    £100 (flowers)

    £100 (cake)

    £20 (invites)

entertainment is our big splurge… the definition of hosting is ‘to entertain a group’ and theres nothing worse than being bored at a wedding and wanting to leave early

the engagement rings where £200 and the honeymoon will be between £1500 and £2000

Ours is slowly spiralling out of control haha

Our initial budget was £20K but this has now been upped to nearer £30K. My parents are paying.

    Venue/Food £10000

    Dress £1795 (inc. Tiara)

    Veil £295

    Suits £1000

    Entertainment £1335 (DJ, Magician, Photobooth)

    Photography £2250

    Videography £1755

    Registrar £539

    Decor £468

    Favours £150

    Flowers £1304.50

    Cake £420

Invitations ~£300 but we’re still doing them

There are things we’ve forgotten, but I know we’re currently at around £22K spending wise. Our biggest splurge is the venue – we’ve paid extra for exclusive hire so we’ll be the only Wedding at the Hotel that day.

We’ve saved money on the rings (although we’ve not got them yet) because we’re going to use my Brother’s Sister-in-Law who runs her own Jewellery workshop. She’ll help us design them and it looks like this will be cheaper than going the high street route for what we want 🙂

Our biggest splurge was the venue (including food and alcohol). It’s looking like it will be 45-50K.

We splurged on the photographer– 5K. Added in a photo booth and videograogher very last minute (like two weeks prior)— best decision we made.

Our budget was 15k. When all was said and done we were closer to 17K.

We don’t know how much we spent, nor do we want to know, nor do we want to disclose even if we did know.

But we splurged on my wedding planners first and foremost, food, alochol, my dress, my veil, musicians, the bridesmaids dresses, my shoes, hair, make-up, welcome boxes for the out-of-town guests, the getaway car, photography, and filmography. We also splurged the night before the wedding by renting a bar downtown after the rehearsal dinner for a live band, DJ, open bar, and late night food.

We saved on my jewelry, my husband’s tuxedo, and the groomsmens rental tuxedos.

Not booked a thing yet but we’re under the budget of £16,000 including my dress and accessories, grooms new suit jacket, Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses, flowers, ceremony, photos, reception Inc food and drinks and finally, the rings.

Not sure how doable it is – everything is so expensive!! We plan on 70 guests

Spent around $27,000 and splurged on our photographer and the venue/catering. The venue is a popular wedding venue in my hometown, and so they offered a really nice package that included the rental fee, cake, place settings, linens, tables/chairs, cocktail hour room, centerpieces (which was a HUGE savings, they weren’t anything fancy at ALL but I did not care), food, and alcohol. It made my life easy, and it was actually one of the cheaper per head venues when all was said and done and you included everything in the package. We “splurged” in that it cost about $13,000, but we had 150 guests who were all able to eat, drink and be merry! Our photog wasn’t horribly expensive, but I was hoping to keep her under $1600 (which was more my own ignorance at how much good photography costs!) and ended up getting ours for $2500. We also rented an all day bus for the wedding party/a shuttle to hotels for around $1700, but even that was discounted since we were married on a Sunday (over Memorial Day weekend).

I went with white roses for flowers because they were the most inexpensive ($550 for all bouquets, boutineres, and corsages), kept my dress budget under $2000 including accessories and alterations, and had a graphic designer who is married to one of my best friends/bridesmaids design our invites, programs, save the dates, etc. and just printed the artwork at Staples. I gave him some cash on the side as a thank you, but it was incredibly cheap to do it that way.

stephaniee24 :  it was a great wedding, I had a lot of fun!

We got married in Brazil and here we do dinner big time, so we had coquetel, a table with cheeses, breads, pies, meats, (I tried to translate this table, and got something like ‘salad bar’, although there was salad there too, it was not just salad), full dinner, 2 kinds of pasta, shrimp, fillet, potatoes etc..

then cake, sweets, more pies and coffee .. the food was buffet style because here you eat as much as you want and can.

I see if I can find the link with pictures. 🙂

stephaniee24 :  rings. We weren’t going to do them (we had intended to buy them later and just use our e rings since we both had one). We somehow ended up getting talked into 2 custom rings when I got some jewelery appraisals done. We love ours.

Our photographer was amazing too, although I wouldn’t call him a splurge. I’m a big fan of cost of wedding.com. It breaks down costs by vendor and by area so you can see how much people spend on videography or photography ect in your area. A big thing it showed me is that the “average” price is not the median (aka what most people spend). By looking at median values I was able to choose vendors that made more sense and splurge where needed.

Best budget saver (cuz we did splurges!) Was buying my dress in December from David’s bridal. They price match their website and I got a $900+ dress for $299 on sale.

fredthebasil : We always had a LDR..  he lied a lot throughout our relationship, I saw red flags but I was in love so I ignored it all.

When I decided to face all the lies and pressured him he told me some of the lies, at this point the wedding was almost payed for so I went ahead with it. But I dreamed twice on the week of the wedding that I was going to marry him but I was going to get a divorce.

Anyway.. we got married and with all the bs plus some more, I left Brazil, I lived in Europe for years and my sister lives in Canada, so right after the wedding I went to Canada alone, he went to therapy.. after almost 8 month of the wedding I came back  and felt nothing for him, it was all gone.. we ‘tried’ (I had checked out of the relationship at this point) another few months but nothing, it was all gone.

So on the 4 of July of this year, on our 1 anniversary (we’ll not really, right?!) I filled for divorce. And this past August 14 the divorce was finalized.. all this time he was living down south in his hometown, I’m from a small town in São Paulo.. It was the biggest mistake of my life, I take full responsibility for it. But, I did love him a lot before I found out about everything. So I guess I had a little hope in me that we could pass all that stress .. I was very wrong.

The story is super long, but basically lies. 😢
