My Future In-laws are big travelers, so as soon as we got engaged, they offered to pay for our honeymoon. They are the most generous people I know. They are sending us to Fiji for 9 nights (not including about 3 days of travel). We will be staying in our own suite (which is like a small abode), scuba diving, all of our meals are included, as well as our airfare, golf, and massages. I’m not 100% sure how much they are spending, but I think around $5000. I love thinking about going there, and sometimes I feel like I am more excited about the honeymoon than the wedding! 🙂

Doesn’t it look AMAZING??

1. $14K (Yikes, it hurts me to even type that)  but this is our “trip of a lifetime” and I was relentless in getting everything to be as luxurious as possible at the lowest possible price.  As it is we are using miles for part of the airfare CHI- JNB, I bought 4 nights of the safari on luxurylink.com, and I negotiated/hounded websites for everything else

2.  South Africa Safari and Mauritius

3. 2 weeks – 5 nights on safari, 6 nights on the beach in Mauritius

4. Safari is all-inclusive and our hotel in Mauritius looks amazing with a private plunge pool and breakfast included

5.  Not sure yet but I hope so!  We are planning on starting a family right away (I’m old!) so we figured now was the time to do this.  I still cringe sometimes about spending that much but these are 2 places I’m so so excited about visiting so I’m sure I’ll get over it!  We leave 2 weeks from today!!!

I love reading about honeymoons! We’re still in the planning stages, but here’s what I expect:

1. ~$4500

2. Rome and Castellina in Chianti (in Tuscany)

3. 10 days (including travel time)

4. Airfare for both of us from either Boston or NYC, two nights in Rome with visits to the Vatican, St. Peter’s Basilica, Colloseum, etc., a private cottage on a villa in Castellina in Chianti for 6 nights, a rental car in Tuscany, and lots of wine and Italian food!

5. We haven’t been yet, but I can’t imagine that it won’t be fabulous. The cottage we’re staying in gets great reviews, and while it’s BEAUTIFUL and luxurious, it’s pretty economical because it has a full kitchen. We love cooking together, so we’ll probably shop in the markets instead of eating in restaurants every night. I’ll check back in when we get back!

1) 10k for flights and hotels.  I would add 1-2k for food, drinks, activities and shopping. for a total of $11,000-$12,000. (We are doing a wedding-moon. The cost of the wedding itself is $2500, which i have not included)

2. Thailand

3. 2 weeks

4. Coach airfare to Thailand, a room at a 5 star hotel in Bangkok and suites at 2 different  5 star resorts, one of which has a private pool. Breakfast is included at all hotels.

5. I have been to Thailand before and LOVE it. It is pricey to fly from the States, but  relatively cheap once you get there. It can be done on many different budgets. There are many lovely islands with amazing resorts, but i probably wouldn’t recommend it to someone looking for an all inclusive beach vacation like you would find in the Caribbean.

We’re booked now!

1. How much?  about $5k (I don’t remember exact as we paid in payments)

2. Where did you go? We will go to St. Lucia – Sandals Halcyon Beach

3. How long did you stay? 10 nights

4. What did you get for it (all-inclusive. private pool, butler, etc.) Sandals All inclusive so food, alcohol, water sports, airport transfers. The only thing we will have to pay for is excursions and spa treatments or extras like a private dinner if we decide to do any. We also love that we will have the ability to visit the 2 other Sandals resorts in St. Lucia so we’ll get 3 different beaches and lots of restaurants to keep us entertained.

5. Would you recommend it? We have not been yet but we’ve heard good things from people we met as Sandals in Jamaica.

We reaaaaally want to go to the Galapagos….however we’re also in the midst of signing contracts to teach ESL in Korea for a year shortly after the wedding. Fingers crossed theres time between to do something along those lines, and if so perhaps we’ll be able to make it that way. By the time we pay for flights and all of that it should be between 4-6k…..we’ll see! We are big travellers (hence the Korea idea) and have a list of several options for a honeymoon or minimoon if need me!

If we only have a few days
— NYC (we’ve been twice though) or Vegas
if we only have a few days and we’re still poor
— a cottage nearby, camping

If we have time and a bit of money
— guatemala (lake atitlan)
— Amsterdam
— Galapagos

We travel alot, so hoping for something a bit off the beaten track!! We’ve done about 5 all inclusives so far!!

So glad this thread popped back up! We’re still trying to decide on our honeymoon so it is great to see what others have done (although our budget is only 3K so we’re a bit more limited than most of you!)

1. How much?

12-15k (planned)

2. Where did you go?

We’re doing 3 stops –

1.) 3 days in London (have not been)

2.) 3 days in Paris (have been before, but it’s so charming and romantic – perfect Honeymoon material)

3.) a week in the Maldives

3. How long did you stay?

We’ll be gone about 16 days all in, including travel time.  Will have 13-14 nights of hotel stay.

4. What did you get for it (all-inclusive. private pool, butler, etc.)

We’re not planning to do a package or book an all inclusive.  We do a fair amount of traveling and prefer to book and experience locations on our own.

We’ll be staying at five star hotels, in expensive locations, so that will be the majority of our budget.

Airfare to the Maldives is about 2k each from NYC.  There is a stop over in London, so we’ll extend that for the 6 days in Europe.  From London to Paris on the train. (about $200 each)

5. Would you recommend it to others?

I really love France overall and would recommend it any time but the dead of winter 🙂  I suspect London will be similar.  I’ve been wanting to visit the Maldives for many years now and a honeymoon sounds like the right time!

We haven’t gone yet but are going April 2011:

1. How much? $6,000

2. Where did you go? Kauai, Oahu & Maui

3. How long did you stay? 12 nights

4. What did you get for it (all-inclusive. private pool, butler, etc.)? Airfare in/out of Toronto and inter-island flights, hotel accommodations at Oahu & Maui (we were gifted timeshare accommodations at Kauai), tours & activities, food, car rentals & gas, shopping, pocket money (hopefully).

5. Would you recommend it to others? For sure, Hawaii is great all-year round which was the main deciding factor for us. We initially wanted Greece/Italy but our honeymoon dates fell on Easter long-weekend and the weather will be much similar to what we have in Canada.
