My husband paid $3K for my diamond (1.02/G/I1). I don’t know what his budget was. He proposed with a solitaire because he knew I wanted a halo setting but didn’t want to risk getting something I didn’t like, so I was the one who found a jeweler to make the setting and a band to match. He asked me to try and keep the price under $2K, and the rings cost $1700. Even though I dealt with the jeweler, he’s the one who paid for all of it. I bought his ring.

omg diamonds are so much cheaper in the US compared to Aus! My Fiance spent $4.5k on this D brilliant cut certified 0.33 carat solitaire. He got it from a boutique jeweller in our city and prioritised quality over quantity. Its smaller than the rings seen on here, but its pretty average for my area, and it is just the most sparkly thing I have ever seen and I love it so much!

Budget was $15k.

We went to the jewelery store (local place) I asked to see all of their diamonds betweeen 1.5-2 carats. He only had one that day and ordered 6 more and told us to come back the following weekend. So at that point, he had 7 of them. We looked them over for probably 2 hours. DH was tired, couldn’t tell the difference. Finally, I picked one. And the jeweler told me it was the one he had there originally! Lol. It was gorgeous, even compared to the colorless stones. The diamond was $15,000 itself. But DH worked a deal to get the entire ring for $15, setting included.

1.72 carats, H color, VS2, triple x

Mine was around $900 for a half carat sapphire and simple 14k rose gold band.

Fiance won’t tell me exactly what he paid for mine, but I know he def would not spend over $10k.  He got a GREAT deal on my ering from a family friend who is in the jewelry business.  It is a 1.47ct, hearts and arrows cut, I color, SI1, center diamond and about 2.5 tcw with the rose gold pave band.  It is appraised at around $14k.  I’m hoping to stay around or under $1,000 for my band, but we haven’t gone shopping yet.

elliesah :  That is interesting to hear how US diamonds are cheaper. I often hear of NON US bees say that their center stones are typically much smaller than US bees that the average is .3-1.0 and 1.0 is on the rather large size, but this is all making sense. Its probably a cost thing more than a “cultural/geographical” thing right? I mean how could anyone spend so much on a diamond I mean its almost double I feel like. I will say this, your diamond ring is stunning. I think going for quality over quantity is super smart. I actually think the size looks perfect on your pretty fingers. Do you think you will do a band or just wear the solitaire by itself? Your ring is stunning.

We paid 18k CAD. Bought directly from the main diamond distributor in the province. As elliesah :  & londonbeeee :  mentioned above in this thread, I’m also surprised how much more value you get for a diamond in the USA. In my case, it’s probably cause the Canadian dollar sucks. Mine is a 1.4ct solitaire in platinum (without additional diamonds on the setting), G colour, VS1, ideal cut, GIA cert. Appraised at 32k …  I guess it’s basically double what we paid for it ? :-/ I don’t understand appraisals

I don’t know the exact price but he said he caught one helluva deal & paid under $2500 which was way under our 4K budget. The center is certified.51ct VS2, H. I was just happy to get my double halo, honestly lmao.

tbenjamin4884 :  thanks so much!! that means a lot!

i think its partly cost/partly culture? I see some Aussie bees on here with bigger stones but I feel like 1 carat is the maximum I really see in real life. And cost would be a big factor too. That being said, my Fiance could have bought a 1 carat solitaire from a chain store for the same price but it would have been a much lesser quality. I see a LOT of cluster rings in Aus too. But i think at the end of tbe day its whatever the ring represents thats important, and I think both big and small rings are beautiful 😊. I always said he could propose with a rubber band and I would be over the moon haha.

i think im going to go for a two thin eternity bands as a stack

diamondbeez :  I spent exactly about 8200 on a Platinum Tacori 2528 set with a 1.13 CT D VS2 Excellent Cut, Polish, Symmetry, Very Strong Flouro.  You might be scratching your head wondering wth…  i guess SO id his homework and bought a brand new sample setting from a store losing their distrubutorship, an set it with the diamond.  Wanted to get the most for his money I suppose.

Wedding band was a new blue nile platinum petite diamond wedding band we bought off of tradesy for 400 dollars.  Yes we are thrifty people 🙂

We paid USD $4900 (or $6300k) here in Aus for a 1.73ct G VVS1, ex cut emerald cut diamond in 18kt white gold and two small 0.10ct side stones – the ring was pre owned. Obviously an excellent price because its second hand and I’ve bought and sold a few diamond rings so don’t have any hang ups on the pre owned bit.
