siegeli: My fiance is Arabic, so not a fancy as Indian weddings, but still extravagant. Even though his family has told us that his guests will be generous with gifts, we’re not having a formal wedding to get money (I know that’s not what you said) or because a formal wedding is expected, but we’re doing it because we want a formal wedding. We planned our fianances to make it happen without debt, which had a huge factor in what we would and would not do. Also, my fiance has been in his career for a while and already has a house. If we didn’t have a house yet, I’m guessing that the wedding would look a lot different even though there are expectations and desires. Also the grand total does include our honeymoon.

Well I don’t have a budget breakdown yet (and it would be really hard to actually do, since the food was made by family members) but total I believe it came in right around $1700. No, I did not forget a zero, lol.

ETA: We had 90 guests, an open bar, and served everything buffet-style.

I just got engaged, but basing on what we can afford and what family will chip-in (guessing…the topic hasn’t been brought up), I want to say we cannot exceed $5,000. I think it’s doable for us, since we’re very low-key and don’t plan on anything huge. Not our style.

About 50k including gratuity but does not include honeymoon. I am very lucky my mother is paying for the majority of it except honneymoon, DJs, cigar roller, photo booth, & special lighting at reception.
