So it’s coming up to that time where we have to decide what to do for our groomsmen. I just want a ballpark of what people think is an acceptable amount for the groomsmen to pay for their outfits. For the purposes of the poll, assume they are buying the clothes (so will get to keep them).
What did you do?

We’re paying for all of our bridal party’s clothes (I realise that’s not the norm), but if we were to have the men paying for their own suits, then they would be paying about $300-400.

We are renting mostly because we weren’t impressed with the local options for buying suits, though if you have good places I totally get why you’d buy instead of rent! When we went to our local Men’s Warehouse they totally didn’t listen to me, showed me several suits but they were all eight hundred dollars! Then when I said we didn’t wan’t to pay that much they basically sent me over to the tuxes and said we’d probably prefer that. Luckily, we didn’t rent from them but since there weren’t many places to buy suits we did end up renting elsewhere. We are doing 3 piece tan suits for $119. I got some great discounts for the guys at a bridal show. If you are buying make sure and consider if any of your guys aren’t standard sizes (2 of our Groomsmen are WELL over 6ft so they wouldn’t likely fit in an off the rack suit). I’d say under $200 would be a good price point to shoot for.

Our guys bought tuxedos and I believe they paid $140 for the tux, shirt, pocket square, belt, cufflinks and the little black buttons. This did not include tuxedo shoes.

We had the guys provide their own shoes, black pants and black shirt. We gifted them their tie and red socks. I was really happy with how it turned out. That being said, each one of them chose how expensive they wanted to go, since we didn’t specify a brand.

We rented our best mans tux, and bought the MOH’s dress, for $200 for both items. The ushers wore suits they already owned, as did the dads.
However, if asking groomsmen to buy their suits, rather than rent, I would actually consider their profession and lifestyle – are they suit and tie guys? Or will then rarely use it again? That could make a difference in how much to ask them to spend.

Ahh I voted as if the question being asked were the one in the topic, not the actual question. So my $0-$50 vote isn’t how much I think is acceptable. Honestly I don’t know. My GMs are all wearing their dress uniforms, depending on which branch of the military they serve. I don’t mind if they arent matchy matchy, I think they’ll look sharp in their uniforms and they would rather wear their uniforms than have to rent tuxedos, so it is a win win!

$11. They wore black button down shirts and black pants they had at home and bought knock off chucks at Walmart for $11. Lol.
The ring bearers also wore things they already had but I got them both real chucks and hats as one of their gifts.
My brother forgot his chucks so his outfit was technically free. :/

I picked $100-200, but it really varied. I got ties for $10/ea from bows-and-ties.com, and we just told them to get a gray suit. 2 guys already had suits, and then the rest varied from Jos. A Bank to custom Armani.

The Groomsmen Tux Rentals are like $156 each from Men’s Warehouse. I wanted an upgraded tux that had a flat-front pant option, otherwise we probably could have gotten them for closer to $115.
Fiance was only comfortable asking the guys to pay $100 each, so we are paying the rest (we actually pre-paid for the tuxes and then are just collecting $100 from each guy… it wouldn’t be the end of the world if they didn’t pay us or cause any rifts in the friendship, so I’m comfortable with this).
I would have been comfortable asking them to pay up to $150 (as that was what I was comfortable asking the girls to pay, although they also came in less than that), but I respected FI’s opinion.
These guys would not have suits/shoes that would be appropriate to wear (aka up to my standards, haha), and them buying a suit would be a waste because none of them 3 Groomsmen are the type that would need a suit or tux in the future really. With the tux rental they have EVERYTHING included… down to matching socks and shoes. I don’t have to worry about the guys showing up in the wrong thing, and that’s worth a lot to me 🙂

They’re paying $199 but we made sure they were very stylish and the GM’s would be able to wear them in the future for many different occasions.
