twodresswedding:  I live just outside London, UK. We don’t own our own home (don’t even rent; live with my parents) as prices are astronomical.

Where we are, you are realistically looking at $300k plus for a one bed/one bath (shower) home (with a parking space if you’re lucky; no garden); two beds one bath (no garden( start at around $375k. A 3 bed/1 bath semi-detached house on a small plot with one off-street parking space starts at approx $500k.

It sucks living here lol

Darling Husband and I just closed on our 4 bedroom 2 bath Cape Cod, just over 2100sq ft, finished basement, pretty big back yard 2 car garage in a suburb of Buffalo NY. We’ll be in a pretty populated area so although I don’t prefer it, you CAN walk to local shopping and restaurants. We closed at $121,000. Although the living room, basement, bathrooms and bedrooms are all updated the kitchen does need to be updated but is doable for now. New roof last summer and new hot water tank/furnace this winter so that’s a plus too haha.  I’m so excited!

$500,000 for our house in Australia. We are quite a way out of the city though and on suburban fringe about 40km from the CBD where my Darling Husband works. Land size 600sq metres Or 6000 sq feet. 4 bedrooms 2 bathrooms. It’s not a huge house inside but we do have a pool and nice outside area.

twodresswedding:  We bought our first house in Arizona (near the Nevada/Arizona state line) for $147,000. It was 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 car garage and 2200 square feet. It was easy to buy but its become hard to sell because the housing market out there has taken forever to recover. We luckily have renters but we’d still like to sell so we can buy a house where we are now.

5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, study. Huge pool and garden.

Bought for under 800k(AUS) a few years back, now worth about 1mil, 1.2.

Its a normal family house to me, just in a desirable suburb 40 minutes out from Sydney.

twodresswedding:  oh this is fun !

We are in NJ and we have a tiny little 3 bedroom rancher and our house was $200,000 and $7,000 taxes. SO bought our house before we met. We are in process of moving further down south due to a SO job promotion and looking for our forever home in the $300.000 range. Then we realized we can get so much more house and crazy inexpensive taxes where were going we dont even have to set a $300,000 liMIT and SO will get MORE money from this promotion!

It really insane how much cheaper it is to live down south !

We are about 5kms from the Sydney CBD are bought our 2 bdrm detached terrace abt 3 yrs ago for $710K (i think, can’t remember exactly). It’s worth over a mill now. An awful house across the rd from ours went for over $800K recently. I’m quite saddened by what you get for your $$ but that’s capital cities for you.

jillbean1217: I’m with you! These prices are making me nervous to even read, lol. I guess cost of living is one area where the midwest wins. My friends from out of state were blown away when they found out how much (I should say how little) I paid for my house.

LilliV:  haha yeah, sadly it is still a good deal. We got such a deal because they house was on the market for almost a year, sold by a divorcing couple who couldnt agree on anything and let 3 other previous offers expire. My FH is a part time real estate agent so we did some legwork and finally they decided to accept. Still cant justify paying double to live closer to Boston!

We’re a couple hours from Ottawa and bought our house for $154,900 🙂 It’s 3 bedrooms/2 bathrooms, 1600 sq feet, in a nice neighbourhood, partially finished basement, with a good sized front and backyard.
