@SR:  My mom is plus size so we didn’t have any luck shopping  at Dept. Stores and she didn’t want to buy at a formal shop (overpriced! IMO) so I ordered like 7 dresses from online, all ranged from 75-200.

The one we went with (below) cost $95, plus $65 in alterations (she’s really short! and had to do some fixing on the chest area where the beading is) then $35 on shoes and $15 on earrings for a grand total of $210.

EDIT: And I forgot, she spent $50 on an undergarment/shaper thingy ma bob.

$3000 but she’s a very extravagant woman.  That was cost for dress and shoes. She’s wearing an all over beaded gown with feathers at the bottoms.

@NavyBride16:  WOW! I need to go to JCP!!!! My mother has her dress but I’m not crazy about it but how do you tell your mother who loves it no?

@SR:  I was going to say DB has a sale till today! You can check on their website…. And don’t worry if you miss it. There’s almost always a sale at DB every month!

At least $2,000, but as a PP said, my mom is just that type of person…it was a couture designer dress, she hated everything labeled “MOB” (she’s on the younger side for a MOB and has a good body and felt all MOB dresses looked too prom-y or too old-lady-covering-up) and just bought a designer evening gown that made her happy. She plans on keeping it for future black tie functions and maybe eventually cutting it short to wear to cocktail parties as well.

Ps she spent MUCH more time looking for her dress than I did mine…I had one appointment and bought the dress on the spot, she was looking for months and months, it’s much harder for moms, there’s no one-stop MOB store where consultants bring you dress after dress!

I spent right around $2000. for one wedding, and around $700. for the other as I used the same jewelry.

@BookishBelle:  My mom was the same way! She spent much more time looking for her dress than I did! I bought by dress on the first day of shoppping, she had been looking for months

@AmyFarrahFowler:  yep same here with my mom! Her whole ensemble will cost way more than mine when all is said and done, I’m sure!  It totally blows my dress out of the water!

My mom is not into style AT ALL.  That being said, she was not buying off the rack.  She went to a special bridal shop and got a true MOB dress.  It was tea length with a little coat, and very pretty.  It was $800, which blew me away.
