missmagpie:  Well, we haven’t made much progress at all but some plans have changed since I last posted about our nursery! Currently waiting to finish putting up shelves in the closet and in the dining room so we can get the pile of crap thats in there now organized and put away. The shelves I thought would go in the nursery came out of the shed and don’t look like they will work in there like I thought, so those are going in the dining room for cookbooks etc and we’ll have to get new shelves for the nursery walls. Also realized that the spare dresser in my closet is way too short for us to use as a changing table, so we’ve been looking into finding a dresser that is the right height and a good balance of quality and affordability. The to-buy list: Dresser, shelves, rug… We’ll try to get all that for under $500. Hopefully.

As far as design and decorating, we found out we are having a girl, so it looks like (not too much) pink and flowers are starting to creep into my formerly neutral music note nursery! Lol. Realized though that the afghan my grandma knit for me when I was little is green, white and pink, so it will fit right in, and I like that baby will have something from her great-grandma.

I can’t give you a full figure, but we tried to keep it as inexpensive as possible. Pretty much everything is from IKEA–and btw, it’s all working out splendidly. He’s got an $80 crib which is streamlined and modern and looks great as a toddler bed. And I feel good because a nursery isn’t really good for more than 2-3 years, before your child has his/her own needs and preferences.

One thing that I did purchase that was useful was drawer organizers–like little boxes to help compartmentalize dresser drawers. Most regular-sized dressers have a lot of space for small baby clothes and it’s easy to get all disorganized.

(or, you could do what my BFF friend does, which is just dump laundry in a big pile int he drawer and shrug. Secretly I WISH I could do this, but I’m just too OCD. But it’s way smarter a tactic!)
