I went with the dress that I wanted to wear. It was just a bonus that it went with my venue. I think that trying too much to match will cause more stress.  Granted you don’t want a cathedral train and veil on a beach (or maybe you do), but other than obvious complications and clashes, just go with your gut on both!!!!

I probably would have gotten the dress of my dreams regardless of where we were getting married, but having a castle with huge gardens and a marquee makes my huge ballgown look less excessive!

I bought my dress before we even had a date picked out, let alone the venue!  It still went perfectly with my venue.  🙂

Not so much the dress, but the veil, for sure.  On my first day dress shopping, we all fell in love with a dress, or so we thought.  After thinking about it, I realized that we really fell in love with the cathedral length veil that the consultant put on me that was gorgeous.  It was soooo beautiful, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized how ridiculous it would be in our church, which is kind of ugly, for one, and which has a really short aisle.  I pictured myself at the end of the aisle, and the veil still out of the door… ok, slight exaggeration, but you know what I mean!

As for the dress that I ended up going with?   Truthfully, my venue never even came to mind.  I loved my dress so much by the time that I got it that I couldn’t have cared less.

I put other. In my mind, the venue and the dress were part of an overall vision I had. One didn’t dictate the other; rather, they worked together really well. Did I nix dresses because they didn’t fit my venue? Yes. But I could also say I nixed those because I didn’t like them and they didn’t fit with that vision I had in my head.

The season and the setting definitely influenced the style!

I am having a outdoor wedding at a house in the country so I didn’t feel like I could have big or formal dress.

I voted other.  I had dress shopped before we picked our venue, and had it narrowed down to two dresses that I was completely torn about picking from.  One was more “me” and one was beautiful and went better with my husband’s working uniform, which is kind of millitary-ish and felt like it needed a more formal dress to go with it.  When we picked our garden venue, it kind of felt like the “me” dress fit into the whole picture better.

I haven’t picked my dress yet, but when I’m trying on dresses I don’t think “Does this dress match my venue?”… I’m just going for how I feel in the dress, not necessarily if it “fits” where I am getting married.

well, considering that i’ve narrowed my dress choices down to three (all pretty much the same style, just contingent on circumstances and what’s reasonably available if one or another falls through) and haven’t even STARTED looking at venues yet…yeah, not at all.  the dress will be pretty simple though, so should fit nicely anywhere if i accessorize it right.  98% sure that we won’t be anywhere really fancy though.

I didnt choose my dress based on my venue, but my dress ended up working well for my venue. I didn’t even know where I would be getting married at the time I Chose my dress. I just chose something that felt like me and that I felt beautiful in. It ended up going with my venue (a clubhouse at a lake) but if it hadn’t, I probably still would have worn it!

My venue affected my dress choice a bit. At first I was looking at a lot of satin ballgowns, but after trying them on and realizing how HEAVY they were, I decided they were not practical for my outdoor June wedding. So I shifted my focus to lighter fabrics like taffeta, so I could still weat the ballgown I wanted without dying from heat stroke!

I’m getting married in a historic building inside so I am thinking I can go with just about whatever dress I like.  Which I will hopefully find soon haha.
