I’m in the Philadelphia area and just got engaged. We’re trying to figure out our budget and don’t really know what to aim for. Unless we elope or do a very small destination wedding, we need to invite 100-150 people to a regular traditional wedding in our area. So we’re trying to figure out how much we would need to pay? Can you Philly-area brides (or Delaware) let me know:
1. What month you got married in
2. Outdoors or indoors? (ceremony, reception, or both)
3. Where did you hold it?
4. What day and time of day was your wedding?
5. How much did it cost?
And any other details you think might be helpful. An approximate cost breakdown would also be good! And do you recommend having a wedding planner? I plan do DIY as much of it as possible, but am so wary of the headaches involved with planning such a big wedding…

So, I got married in September, but actually was married up in the Lehigh Valley. Our wedding was about $100/head.
My younger brother just got married in Northern Liberties and has his reception at Cescaphe, and their reception was about $165/head. Amazing place though. They were married in April and the ceremony was at a church. Wedding started at 3, reception at 6.

Does that include the cost of reserving the space or just the food and drinks?

It included everything. A fabulous cocktail hour and dinner, full open bar and tables with linens. DJ, and centerpieces were extra (I think they used a suggested vendor), and I’m not sure if the cake was part of the package either.Just checked and it was!
There’s a few tabs you can click on to see all the choices. We loved it there!
Here’s some pictures from his wedding.

Thanks, ladies! I’m actually looking more to get married in the suburban area of PA close to DE or even in Delaware. Any suggestions around that area?

I am getting married in March 2013 in the Philly suburbs and we have our budget pretty well mapped out (I hope!). This is based on 130 guests.
2. both indoors at the venue
3. Normandy Farm- Blue Bell, PA
4. Saturday, 5:30pm
5. we are planning on $22,000 for everything including our honeymoon….I am doing a lot myself though (centerpieces, invitations, flowers) and saving money where I can (got my dress at DB, a friend is marrying us, no extras to the food and beverage package)…we have been on budget or below on everything so far… fingers crossed it continues that way
Good luck with your planning:)

@squeak: I am getting married at the Riveredge in Reading (May 2013). It is about $75 per head and includes an open bar.

@nycsa: That sounds really interesting! I took a look at the place as well, how much is the rental charge? Are you also doing the ceremony there or in another space?

I am getting married at Normandy Farm too! I feel in love with Normandy Farm before we even go enganged. Everyone who has been at a wedding there say it is fantastic.
A wedding in Philadelphia is just too expensive and if you want something more affordable you do need to go to the suburbs.

Check out Penn Oaks Golf Club in West Chester, Pa. It’s very pretty, and my son is booked for a fall wedding there.
