@MrsDeLovely:  I’ve read that the national average for wedding spending is that about half the budget goes to the reception (food/beverage, site rental, etc.), 10-15% to photography and videography, and 10% to music.  So it sounds like you’re about average in terms of what you’re spending on your photographer and music.  I think everyone has different priorities, and if those items are really important to you, there’s nothing wrong with deciding to spend more on them and cut back on other things that don’t matter to you as much.  I also think your overall costs are not outrageous given that the national average is about $28,000 (which means half of couples spend more than that).  The most important thing is that you and your family are comfortable with what you’re spending.  Enjoy your wedding!

I believe mine was about $25,000 – $30,000 for ~150 people. I say between 25,000 and 30,000 because there were things included in that like the rings, but I don’t have the added totals (my mom does), but that does not include the honeymoon. My husband and I did not go on a honeymoon.

@MrsDeLovely:  To answer your question about ceremony music, most dj’s will do ceremony music. We’re not having a string quartet so our dj is doing all the music for the ceremony, reception and cocktail hour.

Also, $3k for the live band is a steal!

@MrsDeLovely:  Our DJ is playing the ceremony music. I would imagine your church should have an organist available for the ceremony?

It’s impossible to compare the metro NY/ NJ area to, say, the midwest or rural south. Completely different styles of wedding and price ranges!!

@lealorali:  Yes! I am in Indiana and while I feel prices are high here, I am sure they are nothing compared to NYC or the likes!

$17,000 for 125 people, not including the bands or honeymoon. At first the money didn’t really shock me, I was just thinking this is a one time thing that I’ve been waiting for and dreaming about. Now that the bills are coming in, the money stress is starting to overwhelm me. My parents have gratefully put forward $10,000, but the rest is coming from me (a teacher who just bought a house). In the end, I know I’m saving a lot of money (DIY all decorations including the centerpieces and table runners) and it could definetely be A LOT more money!

$13k for 125 people. That includes rings, attire, everything for wedding, but not the honeymoon.
