I haven’t gotten married yet just decided on the photographer today. There are a lot of photographers out there but you want to ask all the important questions. We are paying 2300 for photographer and videographer reception and ceremony. Bar photographer gives us access to all the photos edits all the photos even does really cool Star Wars themed edits upon request for free. Our photographer also is going to shoot us in multiple locations since we’re getting married in Yosemite an hour reception is almost an hour away from our ceremony. Given all these things I am happy with a photographer as I have seen his work so far and it is immaculate

we will be paying $1260 all up for our photographer BUT that is super cheap for where I live. most photogs are $2500-3000+. our photographer is amazing but has been living overseas for a year so doesn’t have current experience so I think she’s lowering her prices till she’s more established.

Working it out at the current exchange rate, ours is costing us about $3200 which is actually around £2,200 🙂

We’re getting 2 photographers, an Engagement Shoot, USB with images and online gallery. Paying separately for the albums because we want the fancier one 🙂

ETA: Ours is for all day coverage, from getting ready until the evening food is served. This works out at about 12 hours but she doesn’t have a set number of hours so if it runs over she’ll stay 🙂

I think nearly $6,000 is madness.

I’m in the UK and I’m using a very talented fine art photographer who has been published on the front cover of national magazines and appears in all the top wedding style blogs/websites. I felt I had splashed out on her services as she is so bloody good, so hardly a cheapie option. We are getting 10 hours’ coverage, all the photos, online gallery, a beautiful fine art wedding album AND a 2 hour enagagement session for £2150 which comes to $3100. No second shooter.

I’m not sure how this compares to the US but everything else in the Uk is actually overpriced compared to America when it comes to weddings, so I really think $6000 is pushing it. A lot!

its suuuuuuuuper dependent on where you live.  I live in a fairly expensive area and am getting married in an even more expensive area, so I was kinda screwed to begin with, but it’s actually costing us less to bring in a photographer from where we live and pay for her to travel down to where we’re getting married.  The total will be just over $8k.  But everything we were quoted near our wedding venue was much steeper because we’d be looking at photographers based in the hamptons that are probably used to shooting Kim K’s non-selfie pictures.  ugh.  But so far that is the only thing that has come close to being over our budget and we’ve been able to move money around and save in other areas to swing it.  Still kinda painful when I think about it though.

ETA forgot to mention what’s included.  2 photogs for 10 hours, professional retouching on all delivered photos, all photos on a thumb drive and reproduction rights to all delivered photos, a leather bound album for us and two smaller cloth bound albums for the parents.  Plus travel and hotel stay.

Our photographer’s packages start at $3500, but we are paying $4900 for 9 hours of coverage with 2 photographers. No albums or anything, but full access and rights to an online gallery of photos. I’m in NYC

For video, we are paying $3900 for 2 videographers, 9 hours of coverage, 60 min long edited video with chapters, and 3-5 min highlight film, 1 blu-ray disc.

Photographers in our area are pretty pricey, but we were lucky to land one of the best photographers in our big city. He worked out a special package to meet our needs, since our wedding is a more intimate private residence feel and not over the top. His packages were in the 6-10k but ours was worked out to $3,500. We were dead set on making this vendor a must for us and we are so happy to have booked him. Our package includes 1 hour towards our engagement shoot, 1 photographer for 5 hours coverage with back up lighting system, professional retouching on all photos (can be approximately 250), full rights to all photos and issued on a dvd, online gallery, one 16×20 photo and a 10×12 leather bound coffee table book.

Zippity doo da. My photographer is my brother. He has always loved taking pictures and I trust him. I’d rather have him to smile at than anyone else!

andielle:  We’re paying $900 for the whole day — that comes with 2 photographers and a minimum of 900 photos that we will have printing rights for, as well as a free 1-hour engagement session.

The main photographer is a good friend of mine, and she’s only been in business about a year and a half. I’m not sure if she realizes that she’s probably under charging (every other photographer in her area charges 2-3x as much) or she’s doing it so she can build her portfolio. She does beautiful work.

I got a really good deal (I think, anyways) My DJ is really good friends with my photographer (children are friends) so they worked a package for me where I get 8 hrs of photography, DJ for ceremony and reception and a photobooth for the reception for $1995. I did find one photographer whose work I loved but she was over 6000 and she tried to make me feel like an idiot for not wanting to spend that much, told me my pictures would be horrible etc. But I have seen the girls pictures and they look really good to me so I am happy.

I live in Atlanta so I had to do a lot of shopping around because they are sooo expensive, thats why I stick to the suburbs!!!!

andielle:  price also depends on where you are located. I am in Brooklyn, NY and our photographer was $3800 and that included the following:

    -2 photographers and 1 videographer

    -10 hours of coverage

    -2 hour engagement shoot

    -all photos edited

    -45 minute highlight video

-rights to all raw footage (video and pictures)

there were a bunch of other extras that had to do with editing but above are the main things to look for when searching for a photographer
