I didn’t receive any gifts at my engagement party and I didn’t expect to… I didn’t think that was the normal. I am having a bridal shower and a wedding, so I know there will be plenty of gifts given then…

I have never been to an engagement party, but if I were to go, I think I’d get a bottle of wine or some food item to be shared at the party perhaps.  But I see you’re in NY so things are just overall more pricey there!

@sruan:  There’s a lot of things I didn’t know about weddings until I started planning one haha! I hope you find things to register for 🙂

Technically, you aren’t supposed to register for an engagemnet party. I would never even think to look to see if a couple had registered so quickly after getting engaged. For our engagenet party people gave us things like vases, picture frames, serving trays, candle sticks, etc…we even got a few Amex gift cards. As a guest at an engagement party I usually give a monogrammed cutting board.

I second the folks that say they’d pick up a bottle of wine.  I wouldn’t expect them to have their registry completed and wouldn’t even think to look for one until the shower.
