I ask because like a lot of other details for my destination wedding, I am stuck paying the resort prices. i get one free tier, then they advised i buy two more tiers based on my number of guests…..and its $100/tier!!! so i am paying $200 for a 3 tier cake – probably not that fancy looking or anything.
is this normal?
should i skip the extra tiers?
can you show me pictures of your cakes and how much they cost so i figure out to what extent i am getting ripped off and if its worth it?

I think that is a pretty good price. I don’t have a picture of our cake, but it is a three tier, and will cost $423.25 and another $100.00 for delivery.

We price our cakes per serving. Our base price is $3.29 per serving for a traditional wedding cake. We are located in the Heart of North Myrtle Beach just blocks from the Beach.

My cake was $580, for five tiers. It was pretty, but very simple. To reduce the cost I just added ribbon decor, and asked for a fancy tablecloth on the cake table. I don’t think $100 per tier is too bad, actually! Where are you getting married? Some resorts only do “rum cakes”… I’d defs inquire about flavours.

I asked bakers to quote me for:
- 4 Tiered
- Smooth Buttercream
- About 5-7 large sugar anemone flowers
- Etching design on the side surface
- This ribbon around the bottom of each tier
- A filling
- Deliver + stand
For the above, they ranged from $690-800. One less tier would have been $100 off.
I had another friend that had a very pretty smooth butter cream cake, three-tiered with real flowers, and paid $350ish, but I think they had connections with their baker :0

the bakeries i looked at were all really expensive– for my guest list it would have been between $1000-1500. we ended up getting cupcakes for $500. so your quote sounds totally reasonable to me

Take that price and run with it! It’s a great deal. Ours was $600.

@xxjessmicaxx: thanks! i love the idea of getting a fancy tablecloth…any decorations I can pack work for me! and i did ask about flavors – they offer chocolate, vanilla or fruit. i chose chocolate 🙂
thanks everyone else for letting me know the prices. i feel better about my price and now will happily take my 3-tier cake for $200 🙂

That is definitely a great price! I got mine for what I considered a very reasonable price compared to all other bakers in the area. Most wanted $3-$4 per slice. My cake was $200 for a 3-tier including delivery. It served about 100 and included neat detailing.
