This really depends on where you live and the prices for produce and groceries.

My Fiance and I spend around $300-400 per month between us on groceries (in Melbourne). When we were in Canada (Banff) we spent closer to $500 per month (because fresh produce was so much more expensive).

So for me, budgeting $400 per month for one person seems a bit much, but I don’t know what food prices are like where you are from.

Depending on where you live I would say $400 should be enough – generous, but not crazy high. We spend probably $700-$800 a month on groceries, but we live in Seoul where groceries rank as some of the most expensive in the world. It’s literally the largest part of our budget every month.

Kandykane:  For all three of you? We spend about that much for the two of us but we also eat out 4ish meals per week, so grocery budget if offset by that. Wanted to add though that I’ve started ordering most non-perishables and household/personal care items thru Amazon prime pantry and it’s saving a TON. Out of curiosity last night I plugged in my exact Amazon prime pantry order into the local grocery store’s site to compare prices, and the Amazon total was 37% less for the exact same brand items + quantities.

I am in Boston. My fiance and I used to spend about $75 a week for the two of us. However, he is now on a huge diet and we are being really careful to buy super healthy food even if it costs a ton more. We are now averaging about $125 a week.

Kandykane:  We go shopping every couple of weeks and stay around $80 per person and sometimes less, so about $300 a month.  That’s on everything – food + anything else we need from a grocery store like paper towels, deoderant, etc.

Southern California, probably about $100/week on groceries for the two of us. But we do our big trips to the commissary (my husband is a Marine) so that saves a lot of money. I was pretty close to $300 just for myself when I was single.

We spend around 75 dollars a week. I plan all our meals for each day though and get markdown meat to freeze when I find some. Sometimes it’s cheaper if the previous week I’ve made double batches and frozen some for later 😊😋

it depends on where you are geographically as prices vary, and what you want to eat. i spend ab out $120 every 2 weeks (so about $240-$250/month) for 2 people. that’ll cover us for 3 meals a day, usually using leftovers, and snacks. i only buy fresh produce on sale (until our garden grows!), usually deli meat and then chicken/pork, lunch snacks, milk, etc. any household stuff or toiletries i get at a drugstore because it’s usually cheaper.
