@elliegraye:  Media Buying at an Advertising agency…basically I work on behalf of different clients (H&M, Chase, Puma, Delta are some of my accounts) to buy their national TV media from different TV networks. Been doing it 12 years!

We live in Orange County ca, in a tourist area, so rent is a bit hgher out here. We pay 1665. We have a 1.5 BDR 1 Bth, 976 square feet which is very large for a 1 BDR. average is about 650 – 750 sq ft. We have a washer/dryer in the apartment a decent sized patio, stainless steel appliances, gas stove and granite counter tops. Electricity, water, and gas, are not included. but we have 2 parking spaces and most 1 BDR apts. only have 1.  We love it!

@lauren810c: That’s so neat! No one around here does anything like that! But, we also don’t live in a really hugely populated area.

Another NYC-er here – $2600 for 775 square feet, 1 bd 1 bath, dishwasher, elevator, heat, hot water, electric, gas included and laundry on the first floor.  I felt like we got a great deal!

I agree with the PP who said that you are also paying for so much more – I wouldn’t trade my (near Union Sq) neighborhood for more space, I love it here!

We live in the middle of a major city near the airport in North Carolina. Our rent for a two bedroom/two bathroom apartment around 950 square feet is $589 a month. It’s going up to $594 in July.  It includes water, garbage, and sewer.  It’s an older complex so the rent is cheaper and the electric higher. A extremely nice, newer apartment that is the same size is about $800-1000 a month. We are staying here so that we can save for the wedding and to buy something in a couple years.

@HappilyEverAfter54: Hey we’re really close to each other!!  I live outside of Lancaster!

We pay $450 a month, plus electric.  Gas, water/sewer, and trash are included.  We split internet with the couple upstairs, so that’s $30 a month and we don’t have cable.  We rent from DH’s parents and they gave us a break on the rent; it’s normally $550 a month.

In my area, I would expect to pay between $500-$600 for what we have — 1 bed/1 bath, and no dishwasher or laundry.  Anything bigger or more included (like laundry or whatever) would be between $700-1200.

I would imagine you could find comparable prices in the midwest area also.  Check out craigslist and start telling people you’re looking to rent.  You’ll be amazed how many people have places they’re renting out right now!

@CookieBee: I knew it had to be 2 Gold. That building did have a GORGEOUS roof though – when I lived downtown I used to sneak up there all the time. Says something that I was able to waltz up to the roof numerous times despite not being a resident and not even knowing anyone in the building at the time.

I’m getting so so jealous seeing everyone’s cheap rent! I do love living in NYC though. I spent this weekend reading in Central Park and just soaking up the nice weather. But sometimes I do dream of moving to the south and having my bills cut in half! lol.

I rent a 2 bed/1 bath for $770/month which includes water/heat/hydro. That being said, I’m in my small hometown (pop. of about 7,000). SO is still in our old 2 bed/1bath (in a city with a pop. of over 125,000) for about $925/month+. When we move back in together, we’re actually looking to buy! :]
