sharpshooter : a few months ago I threw a fit and told my husband we HAD to start living by a more strict budget. We did an expensive renovation (so that ate up some savings plus we now have a HELOC payment) and we’re trying for a second kid. It’s amazing how much money gets spent without even realizing it. We downloaded a simple weekly budget app and gave each of use certain responsibilities and spending caps. Regular bills and a few categories that are consistent every month (or have separate savings accounts) don’t come out of this “allowance” but for example I’m in charge of groceries. So with my $200/week I have to get groceries plus whatever else I need/want that week such as a haircut, drinks with friends, a new shirt, whatever. My husband has the same except he’s in charge of dates and family entertainment. Anything left over at the end of the week we can save for ourselves later. It’s working well!
