Hey Ladies, I was married in Feb and paid around $120 per dress in Australia. I understand things are generally cheaper in the states, and typically American weddings seem to often have more (sometimes much more) than 2 or 3 bridesmaids so I understand budget is an issue.
I am a designer myself and am trying to grasp what a bride would pay to have bridesmaid dresses hand made at top quality in the fabric colour (probably 100% thai silk), of their choice, to the EXACT measurements of her bridesmaids.

I paid £181 (British pounds sterling) for each of my Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses, don’t know what that is in Australian dollars.

My bridesmaids are paying for their own dresses, I’m choosing the colour and allowing them to choose the style with some guidence from me. I hope they will be comfortable spending around $100 – $130 australian.
“waves to Julia” nice to see a fellow Aussie 🙂

Personally I wouldn’t ask my girls to wear anything more expensive than $180, but it sounds like your dresses might fall in the $250-300 range.

i think my bridesmaid dress in my friend’s wedding was $260, with a discount, not including alterations. it was pretty pricey.

I didn’t feel comfortable asking my BMs to pay more than $100 for their dresses. In hindsight, they would have probably been okay paying $150 but we all knew they would not reware the dresses so I’m happy I kept it under $100 before alterations.

I voted for $150+ but my cap is $200. I flat out refuse to spend more than that on a dress that I’m never going to wear again.
My girls chose their own dresses so they’re varying price points. So far only my Maid/Matron of Honor has purchased hers and it was $170 after taxes and a 10% discount since we all ordered from the same salon. My other bridesmaids dresses are between $140-$160.

I won’t have a bridal party, but if I did I prob wouldn’t be comfortable with anyone paying over $150 for thier dress. Last year at DB I ended up paying almost $500 (between the dress & redic overpriced alterations)- for a SHIT bridesmaids dress. Still makes me sick thinking about it.
So I would say, depending on the detailing & fabric, that up to $250-$300 is still reasonable for a custom made to fit dress.
