It depends on what you want done. If it is simple numbers and letters, expect a few weeks turn-around time. If it is a design or something more intracate, I did find someone who can do it in 2 weeks, but typically takes a month or more. You want to make sure you get it engraved as far out as possible so that you can ensure it will be done before the wedding. I’d say about a month to a month and a half out.

Cost depends on where you go. Numbers and letters would have cost me $100, but because I chose a design, it will cost me $175 (could have cost be upwards of $400, but I found someone who could do it just as well and for less).

Your best bet is to call around.

i got our initials (6 letters) & 9.15.12 on my white gold ring that was tricky because it was a very small area to engrave (and it was hand engraved) for $65 in the diamond district in nyc

We had it done by the jeweller.  It was charge per letter.  I think it came to about $112 for …

Wow, my jeweller said for just text it would be $15-$20 depending on how long it was! o.O I said 5 characters so he said $15. (Maybe it would be different if it was from somewhere else)

I’m just going to warn you not to cop out and go to an engraving kiosk thing in the mall. Rings are really tiny and the people at them aren’t trained with rings. Definitely spend the extra money and go through a jeweler!

Had my wedding band engraved at a local jeweler for $18. That got me 19 characters on a 2mm 14k gold band. I was worried about the small size of the ring but it came out beautiful & SUPER clear & easy to read. Darling Husband had same thing engraved on his band, also for $18. Almost went to a mall “1 hour repair” place, but they said my band was too small to do anything on. They were WRONG.

$12 for our initials, the date, and a secret joke. It was done by a wonderful, independent jeweler.

He showed me how it’s done because the secret joke included a character that isn’t in the traditional alphabet and we had to figure out a way around it.  No one should be charging $100 for that work unless there’s ornate design that requires freehand work.  Most use a machine.

This will totally depend if it’s done by hand or not.

It not only depends upon by hand or not but rather lazer or not. Lazer machines are high dollar units that produce higher clarity and capabilities in different fonts and images vs. your standard single font engraving machines. Hints the greater cost in “engravings”.
