@MsMadHatter:  I’m no jeweler, but it’ll depend if the head on the setting is the right size for the diamond– so if it’s not big enough for your stone they’d have to replace it (extra $). I would consult many different jewelers to get a better sense of what you’ll need. I know my mother has bought a setting and had the diamond set at the same place and they did it for very low cost or free (can’t remember) but only because she made the purchase there.

Agree with love108. Most jewelers have recently quoted me around 100-150 to set a stone I have with one of their settings. If its not their setting, it would be more. This is assuming the head fits the stone. If not, then it will be quite a bit more I believe. Your best bet is to get some quotes, as it will vary by the jeweler.

I just had my 5.5mm stone set and it cost me $300 which included re-dipping(I have white gold) The head I already had was broke and did not fit the new stone so I was charged for a new head. I had went a few places and the price ranged from $125-$300. I went with the more expensive place because they had more experience with moissanite and awesome customer service.

I would call around to local jewelers, tell them what you’re looking for and get some prices.  I’m not sure where you are thinking of getting your setting, but some online jewelers will let you send in your stone to set in one of their settings for a small fee.

at shaneco if you buy one of their settings they charge by points.

ex. a 1 carat stone is 100 points. They charge $3 per point, so it would cost $300.

i just called my jeweller out of curiosity and they said it mostly depends on the shape and size of the stone.

For a 0.3 carat stone, round, 4 prong basic setting it’s around $120.

My fiance had the stones taken from the old ring his mother gave us and had the jeweler custom-make a new setting.  He also made a custom wedding band to fit the new ERing setting and a wedding band for my hubby-to-be.  The cost of taking the stones out of the old ring and setting them into the new one (including creating the custom setting) was about $450.

I would think your jeweler would charge less if you already have a setting that doesn’t need to be customized.  I have a 1 carat stone with two half-carats on either side nestled into the ring.  I love it!  It’s so unique!!!
