I have had Mirena for 5 years, due to get another soon. I called the pharmacy to find out how much the IUD is – $36.10 (if it were not on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, it would be around $200 a $300 dollars). So over the 5 years, that works out to be 60c a month! When I was on the pill, it was around $20-$30 for 3 months supply, plus all the feminine hygiene products I had to buy (Couldn’t skip periods!).
What is your average monthly cost for your chosen form of birth control?

@Deejayelle: I recently decided to stop taking the pill, but it hadn’t cost me anything in the last year or so because of obamacare.

I used to pay $76 a month(!) for the pill. I have some issues with cysts so I was on a higher dose BC. Now, thanks to good insurance it’s free 🙂

$0 my insurance pays for due to the Health Care Reform. But I stopped taking it in Sept since we are trying for baby #2

My birth control pills were free with my insurance plan. The most I ever spent was $60/month for a short time in which I was without insurance and was too stubborn to switch to a cheaper brand of pills.
I’m pregnant now so I don’t have to spend money on any of that now! I used a Diva Cup for the last ten years which works out to having cost 20 cents per period!

I have no clue. I am on my second Paragard IUD, which last 10 years. The first time, I paid about $25 (co-pay) and that lasted 10 years; the second time it was $75, and that was over a year ago. They’re kind of pricey without insurance. I googled it, and it was between $500-$900.

I don’t pay anything right now because of my dads health insurance plan still being willing to cover me but without the insurance it is about $22/month for pills.
