My SO is also a PhD student.  😀    (or 🙁 when he has lots of homework.)  He actually gets a pretty decent stipend since his program is well-funded, but it’s definitely not representative of what he’ll make when he graduates.

Though I think he’s the only person I know who would work without getting paid – he seems to enjoy the satisfaction of doing challenging work more than he enjoys earning a paycheck.

Depends a lot on his bonus which can bump him into another bracket.

My Fiance is full-time, but makes just above minimum wage. I’d say around $25,000 before taxes.

He pays more in child support for one child than I make.

My Fiance just started his job so there’s a lot of potential to move up. He makes at the top of the 30k/bottom of the 40k bracket. He also drives a company vehicle for work and his gas is paid for as well and that is a huge chunk because his job requires A LOT of driving.

@MacFaniam24:  I guess it is pretty helpful to like working more than you like getting paid if you are going to be a PhD student!

My SO has a lower base salary than me, but he is eligible for overtime/bonuses/etc. so he usually ends up making about $10-20K more than me each year.

I think it would also be helpful to take location into consideration. Someone who makes $100K and lives in Podunk, Iowa would live considerably better than someone who makes $100K and lives in Manhattan.

We live in Upstate, NY and Fiance makes more than $50K a year. In terms of location, he makes a higher than average salary, especially for someone our age (24).

We don’t know yet for sure (he’s still in school until August), but starting out he is *supposed* to make around 60k (corporate fitness).  We’ll see, though.

FH’s in school – he doesn’t make anything. I’m supporting us on $23k a year (which is a decent wage where we live!)

You didn’t have an option there for less than $20,000.  My fiance is currently unemployed. 🙁
