Have you considered a judge, justice of the peace, or a mayor? We used our mayor and there was no charge. He even told us if we’d tried to give him something, he’d not be allowed to accept it. Marrying people is part of his regular job duties.

We just called the office of the mayor of the city we live in. All we had to do was make an appointment with his secretary and arrive at the appointed time with our marriage license. The marriage license was the only expense we had.

We had my mom marry us because we couldn’t find a non-religious officiant for less than $300!

I noticed you are in Woodbridge. I found a list of civil officiants for Prince William County.

I find it interesting that at the bottom of the list it says “Pursuant to the Code of Virginia, §20-27, Marriage Celebrants may only charge $50 plus mileage at

the current General Appropriations Act of the Commonwealth rate.” Maybe you might want to try some on this list?

I’m in Northern Virginia as well – getting married in Prince William County. I found our civil celebrant online and she’s based out of Reston. I actually haven’t met her yet, but we talked in the phone for awhile and I knew she was the one I wanted. Easy to talk to, and a fun individual.

I’d love to know what people pay in this area. When I talked to our officiant, she brought up cost and said it’s up to the couple to decide what to pay. She is not allowed to set a fee, so we must decide.

I know my sister paid around $500 I believe in another state – but I’m not sure what I’ll be paying.

For future reference: In Northern Virginia you can contact the local Circuit Court for a list of Marriage Celebrants. Ours charged $50 (the max of what can be charged in Alexandria) and we had the option of getting married in her office or having her come to our location.
