I’m in Adelaide and it varies obviously depending on the suburb but in my sorta area anywhere from 400-600k for a 3 bedroom home depending on how old it is (and upwards of 600k if its a really nice home on a decent block of land). We’re currently own a 2 bed so it’s good for now but if we have more than one kid, which we intend too, then we will be buying a 3-4 bed in the next few years. I really want to build though to save some money and get exactly what we want! I think for land we’ll be looking at around 250k-300k for the average size blocks you get these days.

boomsauce: me too. We’re going to put any child we have in the big closet as the nursery so we can stay in the city. Even the houses in Bay Point start at 500k 🙁

ne11y23:  Very, best schools in the state. Some of the best in the country, which is no easy feat since SC ranks very low in schools. Hardly any crime.

In Vancouver a run-down 3 bedroom house will set you back at least $1 million.  In order to get a house for under that usually involves an over one hour commute into the city.  I’ve long given up the thought of buying a house in my city!

ne11y23:  Prices vary widely throughout the city we live in right now. The part of town we rent in, a 3 bed, 2 bath house (built in the 70’s) cost about $400,000-$500,000. About 5 miles down the road is a very poor area where you could buy a similar home for $120,000. We are building our first home on the other side of town (about 18 miles from our current rental) that is 3 bed, 2.5 bath for $268,000. It’s a good area with great schools, but it is on the newer side of town and there is a lot of growth.

I live in indiana (us), and it really varies. On one side of my suburb, 3BR houses go for $145,000 but on the other side, they can be $500K (just saw a listing for a 4 bedroom for $2.2M)

ne11y23: yeah. Vancouver is crazy. When the market was soft in 2008/2009, a 2bd / 2ba condo downtown was 1.5M. Unreal.
