@anamcara – Ooh is that the bluenile design your own 3 stone ring?
I want a ring just like that but in yellow gold… we’ve been looking loads on bluenile too.
Can I be rude and ask what carat size that is? It’s absolutely stunning!!

- Wedding: June 2010 - Tannery Pond at the Darrow School
FH and I went to look at styles way before we got engaged, just to look at styles…To be honest, I was so overwhelmed and giggly about the whole thing that I couldn’t really focus and it wasn’t much help…And I didn’t even know what I really wanted…After a few arguments regarding my involvement with picking the ring out, I finally said, “Round stone, diamonds on the band, thin band” and left it up to him…I adore my ring but there are definitely things I would have changed if I had been more involved in the design of it…Oh well, gotta love the boy for wanting to do it himself!

I told my guy a few things about a e-ring for me- no princess cut, no platinum & a solitare. He already knew that I’d want a silver/white gold/platinum colored ring and something pretty classic looking without me having to tell him. He also knew that I wouldn’t pick anything out. Although when he started talking about rings, I did mention that he could ask family and friends for help on the style. Especially, my best friend who was a manager at a jewelry store once upon a time. She ended up emailing him pictures of rings that I would like and he sent her the final design for approval. I love my ring- its got a round solitare with pave diamonds and fine metal beadwork on the band.

I had no input. It was a surprise and I LOVE it.

I had emailed him several links to rings I liked. He replied back and said, that’s pretty but I don’t like it. So finally I just point blank asked him what he liked. He said I thought you’d pick something out that was blue not a diamond. I was shocked to hear him say that because deep down that’s what I wanted but thought he wouldn’t go for it!
So we got on the computer right then and I showed him some blue stones I liked. We later picked it out together while on vacation in Hawaii!

I basically picked out my exact ring. We looked at a lot of rings in stores, and one day I saw one and I just said “this is perfect!”. 2 days later that’s the day he bought! I had initially thought I wanted a princess stone, but he got a round one and it’s perfect. 🙂

We looked at some rings at Kay Jewelers- we were actually there returning something else, and he suggested that we look while we were there. I didn’t see anything I liked there, but I told him I like emerald cuts, and cushions. I e-mailed him 3 or 4 pictures online, and he took it from there. He got me an emerald cut, but he put his own spin on the setting. I thought I wanted a halo (which I love) but I really love what he got me. And I love that he put his own spin on it! It’s perfect.

All I told my dear Mr.LittleOcto was that I wanted it to have certification (conflict-free, please!!) and that I wanted something understated. He totally took it from there and hit a home run. He took into consideration that I would need something low-profile because I work with animals and am a huge mess…losing the stone was a definite possibility with me. He got the most beautiful, creative, quirky, darling ring I’ve ever seen and I’m totally in love with it. Now I just need a wedding band that works with it!

I picked out the diamond and band, so I guess I did it all! Although I told him what I wanted, he gave me a necklace when he proposed and did the ring thing later.

He told me to go looking-which I did-and picked out 8 that I liked. Together, we narrowed it down to five, and he narrowed it down to three from there. He chose from those three and I had no idea which one it was!

“I want a platinum band” was the extent of my involvement with picking out my ring. And he did a fantastic job 🙂

We looked at a lot of rings together, but the one that i got was one that I had never seen on any of those trips… he had eyed it while I was looking at other sparkley things and got it without me seeing it.
He knew that I wanted something white in color, not yellow, He also knew that I wanted some small side stones, the main stone to be princess cut, and for the band to somewhat of a cathedral setting… And that is what I got

We went shopping together, I emailed him links, and in the end I drew it out for him. Literally. Pencil drawing on paper. With details and explanations. But between that drawing in early April and him actually proposing in late August, I’d practically forgotten what it looked like!
We’re both pleased that we built something together that we both LOVE!
