Mine was $100, in my area NO deposit is normal!  Oh well, I’m going there the day before for my mani to use up half and will spend the rest on day-of hair.
EDIT: And my hair cost is $55 + tip

@mayflowerbride13:  Whaaaaaat? She’s charging you a deposit that’s higher than the cost of doing your hair?

That’s weird… None of the MUA/hair stylists I talked to had that kind of policy. I paid a $75 deposit, my hair was $150 and 8 other girls got their hair and make-up done too.

I had to put $100 down, which was half the cost of my hair and makeup.

Why not just have all your bridesmaids give you their money upfront for their hair. Then you pay the deposit and hold the money and pay the final payment on the wedding day. That is what we did when I was a bridesmaid in my cousin’s wedding and it worked out well. It was easier for all the bridesmaids because we didn’t need to worry about having cash on the day of the wedding.

@mayflowerbride13:  I would probably split that up and have your BMs give you their share of that. I know my salon (and most here) charge 50% for the deposit. The salon where I used to work does 50% deposit, requires a credit card (they charge it for lates, no-shows, and cancellations within 24 hours of the appointment), and charges an 18% gratuity.

i met with someone and she’s giving me a trial in a couple of months, which i’m paying for, but she just booked me on my date when i met for the consult and didn’t ask for a deposit at all. is that normal? it’s at a reputable salon…

my makeup girl also didn’t ask for a deposit – she said the cost of my trial (which i already had done) was fine…

We never had a deposit but we had it done at a salon, not a private person.

With a private stylist, anything 50% or under would be acceptable, but over that… I’d have some issues.
