anabee323 :  OP’s one of my friends on here so I clicked into this thread not because of its title but because she had posted. But that’s fine, you can think what you want and I’ll bow out — not really interested in arguing over a thread that’s 2 months old.

When we were looking at daycare, we were planning to pay $1600 per month in Chicago, about the average at nearby centers. But then surprise! TWINS. And that’s how husband got his new gig as a Stay-At-Home Dad 😂

So someone asked what do you do when you have kids close in age/back-to-back . Well, our solution was for me to become a Stay-At-Home Mom. Overall our household income could afford daycare for all 3 (yes 3 including one newborn) of our small children. However, at the end of the day my personal salary would pretty much go to paying for daycare, my transportation cost (gas), work clothes, and my lunch.

So, it was a no brainer.  I lost my entire income, but because I’m home we tend to eat in more saving us money on take out and dining out. Our kids are so small we have given up a lot of our 3 day vacations we use to take during the year. Which before having kids was about 6-10 a year. So overall it feels like I only lost half of my contribution to the household incone instead of the whole thing.
