Could you just look around a little more for someone who is cheaper? The first one I found was about $6,000 but I kept looking and found an awesome husband and wife team and the entire package, including engagment and bridal session, is going to be $2,200

OH GOSH!!! Which part of Texas are you from? I have seen prices this high but hell no!!! I would keep looking. I know very good photographers for 2K. I wouldnt really pay much more than that. 4K tops!

Other. Not all good photographers cost $6K and up. There are TONS that cost less and still do a fantastic job. Sounds like you just need to shop around. That’s it. You can still get guest pics but there’s no reason to dump $6K on a photographer if you aren’t comfortable with them. Shop around. Seriously. I found someone for $2K whose portfolio and experience was just as awesome as the portfolios of $4-5K photographers we were talking to.

By “ethnic” package what do you mean? I have been to several Indian weddings and they’re usually 3 day events so if this is the price for 3 full days of shooting then I think it’s totally reasonable.

I agree that you need to shop around. Not all photographers charge 6k. Perhaps you could look into someone who is just starting out or someone who recently moved to the area. They may be willing to give you a good deal.

For 3 days of coverage, 6k sounds sort of reasonable.  is it full days?  Do you expect 3x the number of pictures and albums and everything?  I paid 3k for the photograher.

In that case $6500 is totally reasonable. Just to give you an idea, I’m paying $2600 for 8 hours of shooting by 2 photographers.

If you are comfrotable with your guests taking photos, sure go that route. Just remember that the quality will not be great, they may not remember to take photos of certain things, they may never send you the photos etc.

What about getting a photographer just for the day you have the ceremony or whatever is most important to you?

When we looked, I found a husband wife combo that would fly to whereever you were getting married, so they understandably started at 5500, then I found a few closer to the venue that averaged about 3500 starting, and finally we settled on a small company that had a few locations in the US (I think they have 4 states), that showed me photographer portfolios and let me pick my own photographer, gave us all the rights to our images, and it was only 2300 for 12 hours.  You really just have to keep looking around.  Also, like someone mentioned, what does the “ethnic” package include?  Where is your wedding?

I wish there was an “other” option. I’d say shop around and compare prices.  There has to be a more resoanable photographer so you don’t have to resort to guest photos only.

For a 3 day event, I would say this is reasonable.

If it is in your budget, I would go for it. To me, photos are a very important part of my big day!
