I think the average is probably in the $200 range, but I also think that’s a LOT of money for a one-time-use dress.  My girls’ dresses were $150, then they got a $20 discount per dress because I’d bought my dress from the same store (David’s).  So $130. I thought that was pretty reasonable for a floor length dress that only needed minor alterations for each girl.  I wouldn’t have balked at paying that much for a bridesmaids dress personally, and I’m cheap.  The $250 I was asked to spend on a bridesmaids dress a couple years ago, which looked awful on me and required alterations that basically worked out to taking the entire dress apart and putting it back together, on the other hand, was utterly irritating to me.

I agree that $200 or less is average.  I paid $180 when I was a bridesmaid in my brother’s wedding.  I hated spending that much because the dress was hideous.  It was from David’s Bridal and it was basically a bad prom dress.  I’m going to try and re-sell it but I might just have to give it away.

I chose Monique Lhuillier bridesmaid dresses for my wedding, and they cost $325.  I spoke with my bridesmaids first to make sure they were willing to pay that much.  They said they’d go up to $400.  My mom is a professional seamstress and also offered to do their alterations for free to help offset the cost.  I’m paying for their hair on the wedding day too.

I think anything under $250 is fair game and anything over requires a serious conversation first with the BMs about their budget.

All four of my bridesmaids dresses were under a hundred dollars (I think one was 100 exactly with tax), anything above that was out of the question for my bridesmaids. Three of them are mothers, one is on welfare and the last is 10. 😛

I saw them first at Amazon, which had good reviews for the dress but since they didnt have the size i needed them in, i ordered from them directly…

Right now amazon have them for $59.99!

Just be aware that if you want the dresses to have the sameeee color, order them all at the same time so it is higher chance the fabric is from the same batch!

I order one to test out.. loved it! and when i decided to purhcase for the rest of the bridesmaids, the colors were a bit off, but the difference is so subtle it doenst bother me.. here is a pic for color reference: (the middle one is a tad lighter)

If i had them pay for their dresses, i would not feel comfortable if htey spend more than $100 for my day!… dont think it is fair to them.. even if it comes with the role as bridesmaids..
