We are having a destination wedding and were thinking of handing out:
1)welcome bags at the ceremony (most guests probably won’t arrive early).
2)fan programs. it’ll be hot and we need to explain the ring ceremony
3)birdseed for guests to throw
4)possibly refreshments (donut holes or oj)
But thats so much! Can the welcome bags wait until the reception or does that nullify the ‘welcome’ ? Can I forgo refreshments? I’m worried people will be hungry since the wedding is at 10:30 AM. I just don’t want to weigh people down

i would definitely do the welcome bags at the hotel- regardless of whether or not they arrive early, they aren’t going to want to lug that around with them all day and, even worse, some may leave them behind.

I’d wait to hand out the welcome bags later. What’s in them? If it’s a destination wedding, can you have the hotel hand them out? Sounds like a fun wedding! We had fan programs and they went over really well.

Actually I meant that most people probably won’t drive up the day before so they won’t get a hotel : Our destination wedding is only 3 hours away and I’ve seen them drive 5 hours on a whim! The bags would have jam, water bottle, sunscreen, and some sort of treat. You’re right though. That would be too much to lug around D:

hmmm, unless you are married to the welcome bags, maybe you can forgo them as i believe their purpose is to make out of town guests’ overnight stays more comfy.

only give the bags to people staying at hotels, and leave them at the hotel before the wedding. i think most would get left behind/forgotten if you hand them out at the ceremony.
you can definitely forgo refreshments, just provide water or lemonade because it will be hot.

Like other bees said, I’d put the welcome bags at the hotel. The guests aren’t going to want something else to carry.
Can the birdseed be handed out as the guests exit the ceremony? And is it allowed at your venue? (It’s not at mine, they don’t want extra pigeons around.)
Fan programs will be great!
I would make sure to have COLD water available. I was at one wedding where there were trays of cucumber water and rasperberry water available for guests. As long as you’re serving food later (by noon or so) I don’t think you need to have food.
