I live in San Francisco and I’m currently trying to find hair and makeup services for my wedding in November. I’m looking just for makeup for myself, my mother and my sister. I have budgeted $500 for this and all the quotes I am receiving have been giving me major sticker stock. I understand that everything is more expensive here but I’m having a hard time justifying this.
I have requested quotes from about 15 MUA in the bay area and the quotes have ranged from $750-$1200 just for makeup for 3 people! Luckily my hair services are being gifted. What is too much for bridal makeup? Should I just DIY it on my wedding day? If you are the bay area and can point me to someone please let me know. Thanks in advance! 🙂

That sounds really expensive. I am paying for 4 hair & makeup applications [including myself, which was double the price of the bridesmaids] and it’s costing me $600 total, including the fee for my trial.
There were others I could have went with that were cheaper, but I really liked this salons work.

My makeup is 175 and my bridesmaids are 75-90 each and I thought that was a lot! I live in the Boston area

Holy Crap!!! That is way too much. My opinion is either practice and do it yourself or look into a local beauty school. Talk to a teacher and see if they have any students who excel in makeup application. I am a recent graduate of a beauty school and I have seen some amazing artists. I am also a bride, we are getting airbrush makeup and I believe it costs $55 per person. Good luck

I wouldn’t pay more than like $60-75 for bridal make up. Mine was $25 and turned out great, just had to bring my own foundation.

Great idea on the beauty school, I will look into it! Thank you!

That’s way too much. My SIL and I got ours professionally done. Mine was about 70. Hers was 100, and it was one of the pricier MUAs in the Toronto area as well.
I second the PP about finding a beauty school in your area.

I should add that when requesting quotes I’m asking that the MUA travel to me, since a friend is providing hair services in my hotel room I think it would be easier having them come to me. Would that be why it’s so much more?

I paid $1600 for 9 of us in the NYC area. In this area I’ve never heard of anyone paying less than $100 for a very good person. I would think $500 for 3 people is a good amount. Our amount was just for makeup and not hair. I’m really into makeup so using someone from a beauty school was definitely not happening. What about using an artist from a makeup counter at your local Nordstroms or Saks? If you like their makeup you can try it and they may be less expensive….

Tell the MUA that you just need “special occasion” makeup. When you say bridal that automatically ups the price

That is mucho money . That is to crazy to spend, I would try local salons they should be cheaper.
