@jbridea:  I haven’t had my wedding yet, but I have seen other threads on this.

It really just depends on the area, type of wedding and guests you invite. No real norm. If you are college age and invite your friends, they may be broke and not give much. If you are older, more established and have wealthier friends, you may or may not get more. Also, some areas of the country tend to give more physical gifts than money.

About $2600 in cash, and pretty much everything on our registry (worth about another $1000). We had about 75 people at the wedding.

i’m not married yet but I do know my sisters got around 10 – 12k in cash and another 4- 5k in giftcards and gifts. they had between 150 -180 guests. Usually in my area its a least  a minimum of $100 in gift/cash per person attending.

We invited 320 guests to our wedding and received approximately $79k in wedding gifts. Our guests, especially our family, were extremely generous. Also what spurred the large amount of monetary gifts was that most of our guests were Asian where traditionally money is gifted instead of boxed gifts. It was pretty amazing that even our non Asian guests gave money. I did receive one boxed gift of a panini press but it also accompanied a check. We were very surprised overall with people’s generousity.

Where I live the norm is 100pp, but I have no idea what to expect from my wedding because my guests are from all over, ranging from Ottawa, Windsor, Toronto to California, Misouri (sorry for spelling), Lebanon, England and Australia….
