I have $15,000 in savings and about $5,000 in my 401k. I am 24 years old. I would have a little more, but I just finished paying about $7,000 in student loans.

I’m 24, Fiance is 26, and we have about $12k in savings. We just bought a house (about 2 months ago) so put all of our savings at that time (~$50k) into the deposit. The $12k extra is actually sitting in the mortgage so we’re ahead, but we will redraw some of it to pay for the wedding.

I’m still a student, Fiance is working full-time and studying part-time.

I have about 31k saved up. But I never buy anything. I save a lot more than I spend. I’m not engaged yet (but hope to be soon..we’ve been together for 5 1/2 years) but my boyfriend has about 13k saved up. I just turned 26 and he just turned 27.

If I saw this thread when it first started I would have said 25k.  But now that I have bought a house since then I am down to about 5.  It hurt my soul to write that check,

Oh geez, I feel like a huge failure!  I’m 24 and have maaaaybe $2000 in investments and by the end of the summer will have $1000 in savings (that’s going to end up going straight to my graduate school) because I’m working an extra summer job. My retirement fund is a joke because I can only afford to put $50 a month in it.  The one thing I have going for me is that I’m not really in debt.  I pay off my schooling each semester, rent a house, and have paid off my car.

To be honest, I just have no idea how you guys do this.  I’m a teacher who makes 37K.  I don’t have cable, I don’t live above my means, I make nearly all of my meals.  But after rent, bills, and school, I have enough to buy groceries and gas (public transit is not an option–midwest) and put away $100 IF nothing comes up.  I like the “pay yourself first” idea, but I always end up taking money out of my savings that way because I barely have enough to pay for my living expenses.

Advice?  Keeping myself out of debt will pay off once I graduate…right?

I’m 19, and I have a little over $2K in savings, which is pretty good considering I was making about $420/month before taxes (self-employed). (And I live at home with my parents). Now I make about $900/month before taxes. I’ve been saving for roughly a year, and I’m hoping to save at least $5K by the time I get married in April. Not sure how much Fiance has saved up, but he lives on his own in an apartment, so he isn’t able to save a whole lot.

It takes some restraint to save as much as I’d like to, but I try to buy myself only one item per month for “fun.” For example, last month I bought a really cute tank top, and that was my thing that I bought for myself. This month I bought a new swimsuit. I find that’s a good way to still treat myself to something new, but keep it under control.

My Fiance and I are both 20. I have about $13k in savings. I am only making about $3k a year right now while I’m in undergrad due to my college schedule but I have an excellent scholarship. I worked 2 jobs throughout high school and saved like crazy so I could afford to work less in college and focus more on my grades.

My Fiance will have $4k in savings by the time he gets his tax return this week. He was kicked out of his house at 18. He makes a little above minimum wage (used to make more but switched jobs recently – his pay will hopefully increase soon after training) at his full time job. He lives very frugally and has a part time job as well  to help pay his rent. He is putting himself through college and has to pay his tuition out of pocket. So I think he is doing very well!

I’m 22. I have $4000 in our First Home Saver’s account, and we’ve got $2500 saved up for my engagement ring.

25 years old  – $20,000 in emergency savings, $10,000 in a money market and $7000 in retirement. I’m not going to lie, I’m very proud of this and I’ve worked hard to save. I want to go back to school so that emergency savings money is probably going to go towards that.

I am shocked that people actually have savings and are paying for weddings lol

I currently have around 1k in the bank (in my wedding account) I have spend nearly 20k over the last year on wedding related expenses. 🙁

By this time next year we are going to TTC so I want to have around 5-10k saved up for baby expenses.
