You have your entire wedding planned on Pinterest.

You have already been to the dress store.

Called a few venues to check dates.

Nothing, you're being a good girl.

We had to scratch the idea of eloping to Gretna because our families would just be too disappointed but that would have been perfect. The actual wedding will happen very shortly after we are officially engaged though, we both like those things to be over and done with as quickly as possible.

We’re an international couple, so I have checked out all the legal requirements in both countries, how long it takes to get a wedding permit and which of our home countries would come in cheaper. We would only need ~1-3 months for the legal stuff and to book a venue and flights, for whatever half our families will need to fly in. I have also looked at how long it takes for dresses to come in (and decided to make my own or go the custom road). We have also decided on a rough timeframe of when to get married but we could get a last minute venue in both my hometown and his, so this is just not a priority right now. He seems keen to add an official proposal to our decision to get married and hinted at it coming in late 2016, so I have that to look forward to.

I have also checked out options that are neither in the UK nor my home country because I like the idea of booking a group hotel for both our families and friends. Booking one for 40-60 people costs £3000-£5500 for an entire week and usually comes with a sauna, hot tub, a room with pool billard, table tennis etc….it sounds pretty good, especially because we could then just have a low-key BBQ for the actual wedding & buy our own alcohol (less than £2000 together in the countries I looked). That would be perfect if it weren’t for the fact that our families do not speak the same language and I am not sure how well that would work out. If I could get a wedding ceremony + reception for £5000 I might just ignore that factor and buy a few extra bottles of beer and wine.

We’ve only talked about venues and budgets. I have started pricing out two venues— one inclusive of catering/furnishing and one exclusive plus the rental of all of the items. (It’s looking like the inclusive venue but it’s going to come down to what/if my parents contribute and what we can save in the meantime. I know he has the ring, but he is giving NOTHING away! We’re going to Florida in two weeks for a mini vacation…. But I’m not going to drive myself crazy about it. My goal is a wedding date of May 2017.
