I am working on my floor plan and was wondering how much space I should set aside around the tables for people to sit and the caterer to get around. Someone told me each table needs 24″ around it, but that seems like a lot.

Are you having a plated or buffet style dinner?
If you are having a plated dinner – are the servers holding the trays of food, or using tray jacks to set the trays down, and serve from that?
I know it’s totally random, but I worked in events for a hotel for a few years, and all of this affects the space you need.

We’re having plated dinner, but I don’t know yet how the caterers will be serving it. I assume they’ll be placing tray jacks down and then moving around from there.
