We have about 3-4 hours before the ceremony for pictures, but we’re doing a first look, three separate locations, and all formal portraits before the ceremony.

This is a question best answered by your photographer. Seriously.

This depends on when you are getting married too. A lot of photographers love the golden light, which is a little before sunset when everything is shady and the sun is lower. Unfortunately, if this is a summer wedding (like ours), to get this light would be later into the evening (say 7:00 p.m.). So even if we did a first look, we won’t get the gorgeous golden light photos until later. So I always recommend a first look, especially if you want a lot a family portrait-y things, but I would consider spacing in a little time later on to get these pretty golden light pictures. The time you need would depend on the number of pictures/family members you would like. For example, photographing five family members is a lot faster than corralling and photographing 30 family members.

It will really depend on so many factors, like how long your photographer take to shoot, where you are going, how many people are in the party, and how much of the getting ready he is going to capture, so it’s too hard to get an estimate from other people without a ton of detail, and even then, we don’t know how fast your photographer works. Just make sure you have a list ready of all the things you want him to capture (generic, a good photographer does not need a shot-by-shot list and will work best without one… things like: getting into dress, getting hair done, first look, etc.).

Like pp said it depends, but we are leaving 3 hours before for pictures.  I plan to arrive at the venue as soon as we can with my hair and make up done.  All I will have to do once I get there is put on my dress and take pictures.
