@jwdesiree: I had most of my family flying in too… I actually took the full week off before because I had people starting to arrive on the monday and I was partially responsible for pick ups because we did have 3 people staying at our house….
I will tell you…i had a whole “schedule” worked out to get my last minute things done the weekend before (before people arrived), and it kinda went to hell…I ended up having to divy it up during the week, and it was BU-SY. I had spreadsheets etc etc… but things just kept happening to take me away from the task at hand, it was frustrating.
I had the monday booked off after the wedding as well but ended up taking tuesday too because I was SO EXHAUSTED! I think it was such an emotional drain and physical (being strapped in the dress all day, constantly moving, dancing ALL night… but it seriously felt like I had gone to the gym for 10 hours straight after not moving for 3 months!! I was physically DONE…..
Unless you have a low key sunday with NO visitors or gift openings…I definatly suggest tuesday too!!! Definatly go for time off after the wedding if you have to choose…. you have no idea how drained you will be lol…. I think I would have died if I had to go back on the monday.

@jwdesiree: I took 11 vacation days. I worked from home a few days before the wedding and took Wed-Fri off. Then, I took off 6 days for honeymoon + 2 days after we got back to recuperate.
My wedding was out of state. If it wasn’t, I would have probably only taken Friday before the wedding off.

Thanks for all the advice, Bees! 🙂

10 days vacation time for wedding and honeymoon!

I took 3 days before my Saturday wedding (Wed-Fri) and then 2 weeks after for the honeymoon. We left town Sunday evening and came back the Friday before returning to work on Monday. So 2.5 weeks total.

Three days total. The day before and day of the wedding (which was on a Friday), and then the following Monday.

@jwdesiree: Well my wedding is out of state on a Saturday.
So we’re flying back into our homestate on Saturday, one week before the wedding day and then taking a week honeymoon directly following. I have Mondays off so I don’t really need to take those off so I think we have 17 days of vacation days.

We had a destination wedding so it’s all kinda lumped in together. We had to be in Mexico 3 days before the ceremony due to legal requirements so I took 4 days off from work before the wedding (we left to make the 5 hr drive to the airport that night after I got off work). Then we were in Mexico for a week, then Georgia for almost a week. I was back at work two days after we got back home. So total I took off just over 2 weeks which was all paid vacation except 4 days I believe…

Oh my I feel like my Fiance and I will be taking too long of a honeymoon after reading the PP. Our wedding is on a Friday and I most likely will be taking off that Thursday & Friday. Then we plan to take a honeymoon cruise to the Panama canal and that is between a 10-18 day cruise, depending on the schedule of the cruises.
I do get 14 paid vacation days a year and since we are not getting married until 2015. I can save my days from now til the wedding.

@jwdesiree: I’m getting married on a Saturday and am planning on taking off 3 days before the wedding. Originally I was only going to take Thursday and Friday, but I’m strongly considering Wednesday as well because my favors will be homemade by yours truly, and frankly I could use the extra time to get them done.
I’ve been saving up my PTO, so for the honeymoon I’m planning on taking two weeks after the wedding. Whether or not our actual honeymoon will be two weeks long, I don’t know–we will probably be gone somewhere between 10 and 14 days. But even if the honeymoon is not that long, I’m thinking I’ll just use the extra time to relax at home.
Total time for the wedding and honeymoon will be 19 or 20 days including weekends, but I’ll only 12 or 13 of them will actually be PTO.

I took off the Thursday and Friday before my Saturday wedding, then the following Mon-Fri for our honeymoon. I was pretty well prepared, and felt like that was plenty of time to get things done. I also don’t have a lot of vacation time, so I couldn’t have taken much more unless I wanted to be left with no days off the rest of the year!

- Wedding: September 2013 - Ontario, Canada
I took 3 weeks off work for wedding (dw) and honeymoon. 10 days for the wedding and 10 days for our honeymoon. We get more vacation time in Europe though… I have 22 days a year on top of public holidays.

@jwdesiree: I ended up using only 5 vacay days (but my work generously “gifted” me 3 days). I got married on Saturday – so I took the Thursday and Friday off before. Honestly – could have done without the Thursday – I basically hung out alone all day watching Teen Mom and only got a pedicure at night. The following week we were gone the entire week for our honeymoon. I also took the following monday off – we got home late sunday night. So total of 8 days off work – could have done it with only 6 (including honeymoon).

We took off two and a half weeks for our wedding/honeymoon. I used all of my vacation and sick time, but it was worth it. 🙂

I’m getting married this Saturday and I’m taking off this Thursday & Friday. We are leaving for our honeymoon on Sunday, so obviously I’ll be off next week too.
